About the role

We are looking for an outstanding intellectual property and marketing attorney who thrives in a dynamic and collaborative environment. This lawyer will provide counseling on IP-related issues; assist with managing Zillow’s IP portfolios and; and support our brand marketing efforts.

In this role, you will

  • Help the business enhance and protect its IP portfolio: provide guidance for identifying ideas/filing patent applications, clear trademarks and file trademark applications, help ensure maximum protection of company content and data, draft licenses, and assist with IP enforcement efforts

  • Provide legal support and guidance on issues related to trademarks, patents, copyrights, trade secrets, rights of publicity and other forms of intellectual property

  • Collaborate with legal peers and business colleagues to support traditional and digital media marketing efforts and other brand campaigns

  • Provide sound, practical advice to business colleagues that help accomplish company objectives

  • Provide advice and subsequent review and approval for marketing output in all forms, including online social marketing, assessing advertising claims substantiation, reviewing and advising on creative content, and draft disclosures and disclaimers, among other duties

  • Negotiate marketing and advertising related agreements, (including endorsement/talent/influencers, agency, vendor, font and music licenses, and production)

This role has been categorized as a Remote position. “Remote” employees do not have a permanent corporate office workplace and, instead, work from a physical location of their choice which must be identified to the Company. Employees may live in any of the 50 US States, with limited exceptions. In certain cases, an employee in a remote-designated job may need to live in a specific region or time zone to support customers or clients as part of their role.In California, Colorado, Connecticut, Nevada, New York City and Washington the standard base pay range for this role is $120,900.00 - $193,100.00 Annually. This base pay range is specific to California, Colorado, Connecticut, Nevada, New York City and Washington and may not be applicable to other locations.In addition to a competitive base salary this position is also eligible for equity awards based on factors such as experience, performance and location. Actual amounts will vary depending on experience, performance and location.

Who you are

  • 4+ years of a combination of IP and marketing law experience, preferably with some in-house counsel experience

  • Experience managing a company’s IP portfolio (including counseling on effective IP strategy options)

  • Broad-based experience supporting marketing teams in the internet, technology, and/or media industries

  • A project manager, skilled at communicating with business partners

  • An innovator and results oriented problem solver

  • Able to demonstrate good judgment and evaluate risk while considering the larger picture

  • Diligent, detail-orientated, and meticulous practitioner

  • JD with active state bar admission
