Last month, Mass General Brigham Health Plan volunteered at Community Servings, a local organization that offers 15 medical diets designed to help people improve their health through nutritionally appropriate food scratch-made from wholesome ingredients. Annually, they make and home-deliver about a million meals to thousands of families impacted by critical or chronic illness. One hundred percent of the meals go to those experiencing one or more critical or chronic illnesses. Many are experiencing poverty and managing multiple illnesses. #WorldNoTobaccoDay #Smoking Cigarette smoking alone kills more than 480,000 Americans each year. It’s not just the smoker that’s negatively impacted by cigarettes; it’s everyone around them. Tossing a tobacco habit protects your family, friends, colleagues, and anyone else in close proximity from breathing in secondhand smoke. #WomensHealthMonth Everyone has unique experiences and factors that have to be considered when delivering care. Intersectionality is complex, as it involves race, sexual orientation, class, weight, age, physical ability, and gender. Any of these can combine to affect health outcomes, including reproductive care and fertility. Rather than focus on only one aspect of a person’s identity, intersectionality embraces the layered complexity that comes with each individual and acknowledges the role that multiple factors can play.
