What's an average day like?

This is a net new position for Pliancy within the Data & Business Enablement team. You will work with our Lead Analytics Engineer to to gather business needs, establish effective analytics results, create data models, and maintain our data lakehouse and analytical reporting environment. You'll use our analytics tools to discover important business insights and trend, and convert broad business problem statements into specific analytical solutions. The Analytics Engineers create and maintain architectural and systems documentation and maintain a scalable data catalog to enable self-service and single-source-of-truth analytics via Looker.

You are able to transform ambiguous requirements into data analysis and tools and are able to convert business requirements into efficient data models and solutions. Telling a story with data comes second nature to you. You value working directly with stakeholders and addressing challenges without much oversight. The ability to convey definitions, data insights, and project roadmaps clearly through effective verbal and written communication.

Responsibilities:

  • Optimize for long-term value by concentrating on engineering rather than on recurring ad hoc tasks.
  • Assist in developing and maintaining the analytics layer of our team's data environment, ensuring that data is standardized and easily accessible.
  • Contribute to the optimization, documentation, testing, and tooling efforts aimed at improving data quality and empowering data analysts, scientists, and business users.
  • Design and develop compelling data visualizations while also assisting in the definition of the necessary supporting data architecture.
  • Collaborate and mentor data analysts and scientists in the development of efficient data pipelines and models
  • Collaborate with both customers and teammates to identify key use cases and define the requirements that go with them.
  • Provide thought leadership, best practices, and standards for designing and implementing scalable data analytics solutions.

Should have

  • Soft skills (personality, relationship-building, communication, stress management)
  • 2+ years of expertise in data platform administration/engineering
  • Knowledge and experience with query languages (SQL) for relational and graph databases
  • Willingness to learn new things and share what you've learned with others
  • Capability to interact with stakeholders and project leaders to understand needs, deliverables, and set expectations on activities for which you will be responsible
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, presentation, and public speaking abilities
  • Passion for learning and a desire to pursue classroom instruction and self-discovery in a number of developing technologies
  • Hands-on expertise with Google Cloud Platform (GCP) based technologies such as BigQuery, Dataflow, Cloud Data Fusion, and Looker.
  • Experience transferring ELT processes (not simply data) from relational warehouse databases to GCP-based solutions.

Nice to have
  • Prior experience within Business Operations or Analysis, and/or IT Consulting.
  • Experience with data lakehouse ELT build and design
  • Experience with Dataform, dbt, or other transformation workflow tools
  • Google Cloud Data Engineer Cert or Google Professional Cloud Architect Cert
  • Looker LookML Developer and/or Looker Business Analyst Certifications a plus.
