Community Center for Education Results (CCER), which supports the Road Map Project initiative, is looking for a Data Engineer to play a key role in managing its Pre-K through postsecondary, longitudinal education data warehouse in support of the Road Map Project. The Data Engineer serves as the data team’s subject matter expert in education data integration, database design, development, and maintenance.
The Data Engineer is an integral member of CCER’s high-energy data team, working alongside a Data Strategy Director, Senior Data Analyst, and a Data Scientist. The data team is part of a larger, integrated team comprised of Research, Communication, and Community and Family Engagement Teams, and also works closely with CCER Impact Teams, students, families, community groups, and other Road Map Project partners.
The team performs mixed-methods research and data science, and develops reporting tools to help answer community questions, examine racial equity, and support advocacy and local continuous improvement efforts to advance racial equity in education systems. CCER maintains a longitudinal education data warehouse that includes de-identified pre-kindergarten through college student academic data for students who have attended K-12 in any of the seven Road Map Project districts since 2010 (N ~ 400,000), and also collects and maintains data from other external and novel sources (e.g., staff and student survey data, educator data and other school system information).
ABOUT CCER AND THE ROAD MAP PROJECT
CCER is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization established in 2010 to staff and support the Road Map Project—a collective impact initiative to improve student achievement from cradle through college and career in seven King County, Washington school districts: Auburn, Federal Way, Highline, Kent, Renton, (South) Seattle, and Tukwila. Through multisector collaboration with hundreds of organizations and individuals, the Road Map Project aims to increase equitable policies and practices in education systems to eliminate opportunity and achievement gaps, and for 70 percent of the region’s youth to earn a college degree or career credential by 2030.
RESPONSIBILITIES
ETL AND DATABASE MAINTENANCE & DEVELOPMENT
- Lead ETL development using data integration tools and SQL to produce, test, and deploy ETL processes
- Model complex longitudinal education data in normalized and dimensional designs (Star schema)
- Manage database and ETL code deployments
- Produce and manage system documentation
- Create and maintain technical solutions to interface with multiple data sources
- Manage cloud infrastructure, including user access and security protocols
ANALYSIS
- Automate and simplify analytical processes and reporting
- Work alongside other data and research team members and other stakeholders to solve data problems, develop key performance indicators, and to model and prepare data ready for consumption
- Participate in developing best practices and standards for data management and data security with regional and national partners
- Lead data-related projects
- Support ad-hoc and standard reporting processes
REQUIREMENTS
- Demonstrated personal commitment to anti-racism work with an understanding of the challenges and barriers faced by communities concerning race, ethnicity, age, class, ability, immigration status, gender, etc.—and their intersections
- Demonstrated experience building end-to-end data integration and ETL business intelligence solutions, including design, testing, implementation, and documentation
- Experience managing secure data and user access
- Experience with data warehouse design and star schema data models
- Strong analytical skills with excellent knowledge of SQL
- Experience working with SQL Server, including database, table, index and stored procedure management
- Experience with any shell scripting language, with a preference for Powershell scripting
- 2+ years of Python experience
- Experience using GitHub
- Ability to develop, improve, extend, and maintain existing data pipelines
- 1+ years’ experience with dbt
- Experience with database administration and familiarity with cloud management (AWS or Azure)
- 1+ years’ experience with cloud data warehousing, e.g. Redshift, Snowflake, BigQuery
- Has demonstrated eye for detail, and the ability to solve data and technology challenges
- Self-directed with ability to assume ownership over projects and ability to manage personal workload
- Ability to work as part of a team, including reviewing code written by other team members, clearly communicating methods and knowledge, and demonstrating flexibility in picking up and sharing workload on a changing portfolio of projects
- Strong personal commitment to racial equity and experience working in partnership with, by and for communities of color
- Flexibility and desire to work with a highly dynamic team of individuals with a passion for the Road Map Project’s mission and goals.

LOCATION
This position is remote, with occasional requirement to attend onsite meetings. CCER offices are located in Pacific Towers: 1200 12th Avenue South, Suite 701 Seattle, WA 98144. The organization will not assist in relocation expenses. Candidates must reside and be authorized to work in the United States.
COMPENSATION
The salary range for this position is $75,000 – $90,000 annually, depending on experience. Excellent benefits package, including health, vision, dental, and life insurance, unlimited PTO, as well as a 401k plan with employer match. CCER is an equal opportunity employer.
