As a leading farmed animal advocacy organization, we know that achieving this goal requires a diverse, inclusive, and collaborative work environment—one that welcomes and sparks new perspectives and innovative ideas. If you are passionate about our mission, driven to make a big impact for animals, and eager to be part of a dedicated team, join us!

We currently seek a global director of data and analytics to join our technology team. In this role, you will create, nurture, and grow the organization’s global operational data needs, with a strong passion for data and analysis and a clear vision for how data can transform organizational strategy. The global director of data and analytics is a hands-on leadership role, responsible for leading a team to deliver high-quality, high-value data products; working to scale the data function in a cloud-based SaaS systems environment; and ensuring consistency in the organization’s approach to data collection, analysis, and reporting.

You will do invaluable work:

  • Drive the scope and effectiveness of the organization’s data and analysis functions
  • Ensure cloud-based data is centralized, cleansed, and modeled to support data analysis requirements from all functional groups within the organization
  • Create a common data framework so that all company data can be analyzed in a unified manner
  • Execute a plan to develop and refine our ability to measure and optimize our data usage and data-driven decision-making performance
  • Ensure that all transactional systems can communicate with the data warehouse and that production data adheres to a unified data model
  • Develop a roadmap for the data and analytics functions that clearly defines ownership and responsibility between the central data technical function and the functional groups
  • Manage a team of two (our Salesforce administrator and our data, analytics, and integration developer), as well as the team’s change and incident management policies and procedures
  • Collaborate interdepartmentally, ensuring data needs are addressed and required data is modeled and available to analysts and end users
  • Work closely with stakeholders to gather feedback and understand the organization’s evolving data needs, championing new ideas and enhancements based on current and projected organizational needs and changes in technology
  • Work closely with colleagues to develop, define, and disseminate data, analytics, and reporting capabilities and formulate value propositions, leading the team to define data-related user experience and technical requirements
  • Set the long-term strategy for Mercy For Animals’ data and analytics product portfolio, particularly the evolution from data-centric to intelligence-centric solutions
  • Help leadership plan for any changes to our data strategy or needs
  • Identify new technical and data partners that facilitate strategy, create business plans and road maps, and document requirements that support strategic objectives
  • Supervise project management for data-related product development, enhancements, and support
  • Partner with the project management office to lead project management training
  • Adhere to all organizational policies and procedures
  • Perform any other duties assigned

Your qualifications will take our technology team to the next level:

  • Masters, doctorate, or equivalent experience in a quantitative field (preferred) (computer science or statistics strongly preferred)
  • Five or more years’ experience in a leadership position managing a data or an analytics team
  • Five or more years’ experience creating and maintaining extract, transform, and load processes; data models; data lakes; and data warehouses
  • Five or more years’ hands-on experience with Salesforce and BI visualization tools, such as Tableau and Domo
  • Experience leading at least one corporate or organization-level data platform implementation
  • Experience working with multiple stakeholders on the executive and senior-leadership levels
  • Ability to adapt quickly to new or unfamiliar tools, data, and problems, as well as develop end-to-end data-strategy solutions for a global organization undertaking complex problems
  • Problem-solving effectiveness, with excellent listening skills and capacity to understand stakeholders’ questions and needs
  • Ability to collect and translate business requirements into technical specifications, identify the most innovative approaches, develop project plans, oversee and manage implementation, and create staff training
  • Curiosity and a flexible attitude in shifting environments
  • Fluency in English as a first or second language
  • Comfort with autonomous or hyper-collaborative work in a fully remote setting
  • Commitment to the mission and values of the organization
  • Commitment to continued personal and organizational growth in diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice principles

About Your Team Leader

Your team leader, the global vice president of technology, is a mission-driven technologist who joined Mercy For Animals in 2019 after 20 years in CTO and consultancy roles for major international corporations. He believes that a strong technology strategy and its effective implementation are vital for mission-driven organizations to maximize their impact.

As a leader, he doesn’t believe in the existence of “technology” problems. Technology is a tool, and in his experience, organizations face challenges for many reasons, from process to people to product misfit. Throughout his career, the guiding principle at the heart of each of his teams has been that success always comes from the whole team, not from any one person. Therefore, he continually seeks to invest in talent and ensure the people he works alongside are successful.

Professionally, he’s always on the lookout for the next big challenge, investing himself strategically and operationally in continuous improvement and innovation. Personally, he enjoys reading (particularly about time travel/alternative history), cooking, mountains, and spending time with his wife and companion animals.

Compensation and Benefits

Earn an annual salary of $69,817–$87,271 (in the United States*), depending on qualifications and experience. In addition to a collaborative and innovative work environment, you will be able to take part in our benefits package, including no- or low-cost health, vision, and dental insurance; generous paid time off and sick leave; and 401(k) retirement plan, with a dollar-to-dollar employer match of up to 3 percent of your annual earnings.

*Benefits and salary outside the United States will be shared early in the interview process.

Application Details

We consider traditional and nontraditional qualifications and carefully review each application, resume, and cover letter.
