We're looking for a Head of Data to lead the data science team at Co–Star. You’ll help tens of millions of people connect to each other and themselves – through astrology – in real, meaningful ways. You will report to the VP of Engineering. 

WHAT YOU’LL DO

• Support, develop, and build out our data science team, currently two people
• Evaluate our current data science processes and create a strategy around improvements and scalability, iterate on processes and structure to optimize the data organization
• Work closely with Product to develop a roadmap that blocks out longer term strategy around content systems, shipping incrementally with as much measurable user value as possible. 
• In partnership with in-house recruiting, hire and grow Co–Star’s data science organization, working closely with the rest of the team to execute your hiring goals
• Work with cross-functional leadership to set strategy and quarterly company-wide OKRs, tricking that down to data science OKRs 
• Work closely with the team to troubleshoot issues with data structures, cross-functional opinions about data 
• Drive accuracy of AI/ML products and educate others on AI/ML products and capabilities.
• Transform ML papers (Fan, Reiter) & experimental ML tools (e.g. GPT-3) into products & metaphors we can use to drive development

WHAT YOU'LL BRING

• 5+ years leading data scientists, data analysts, or other members of data organizations 
• Precise and thoughtful communication and management style
• Excitement and success around hiring, developing, and retaining your team, keeping DE&I at the forefront of every hire 
• A mindset that process is around to serve us and is something that can and should be iterated on
• Expert-level understanding of core principles & modern tooling in data science, including machine learning (eg SK Learn, Pytorch, Tensorflow), data and text analytics, clustering, pattern recognition and extraction, automated classification and categorization, deep learning, and NLP
• Experience with data pipelines for storage and accessing (AWS Athena, GCP BigQuery) and processing (Athena, EMR, Dataflow, Dataproc)
• Deep familiarity with data science workflows, including experimentation and evaluation  
• A love of figuring out “hacky” ways of accomplishing things, but the awareness to know when the cheap way is no longer adequate
• A clear communicator, both verbally and in writing
• Secret love for beautiful writing
