Local races matter. A lot. Mayors, county executives, school boards -- the outcomes of those elections directly affect people's day-to-day. Yet local election coverage is suffering because of local news cutbacks, and only one results provider in the US covers races all the way down the ballot. That's why we at Decision Desk HQ are proud to announce our new partnership with Ballotpedia to provide our embeddable graphics and real-time results for literally tens of thousands of local races around the US this year, starting next week in Indiana. Thanks to Geoff Pallay and our friends at Ballotpedia! https://lnkd.in/eCYeXHjT

In her monthly column with PBS's Preserving Democracy, BP Founder, Leslie Graves, talks about food as a metaphor for voting: it is best when savored and enjoyed. Much like the "slow food" movement, founded in Rome, "slow voting" is an antidote to the oversimplified and fast-paced nature of American politics. The voting process deserves a thoughtful and meaningful approach. Remember to take time to understand the issues and candidates on the ballot. Read Leslie's full column here: https://lnkd.in/dpcdBFk8

We are so proud to say On the Ballot just released its 100th (!!) episode! To celebrate this milestone, Ballotpedia founder and CEO Leslie Graves joined the podcast to discuss how Ballotpedia can help young, prospective voters get informed and empowered when they head to vote. Leslie discusses weeding through the abundance of news online, how to identify reliable political information, and shares some personal stories about her first time voting. Voting for the first time can be daunting, but it is so worth it. As Leslie says in the episode, "You have a bigger life if you vote than if you don't. It's not just that you're fulfilling your civic duty. It's that you're making your life, as you learn to do this, more interesting, bigger, and more significant." If you've looked up local candidates on Ballotpedia, there's a good chance a Ballotpedia Fellow has found that data. In 2023, our Fellows program found 17,268 individual candidate attributes or data points to add to Ballotpedia. The Fellows program plays an integral role in Ballotpedia's mission to solve the ballot information problem. As we inch closer to November, voters across the country will rely on this information to make informed decisions. We are now accepting applications to join the Summer 2024 Volunteer Fellows Program! The program is 100% remote and asynchronous. We are happy to work with you to use this program to satisfy requirements for academic credit or as an internship. If you know anyone passionate about voter education, please share this opportunity with them. Additionally, feel free to reach out if you have any questions. We're so happy to answer them, and we LOVE talking about the program. https://lnkd.in/eJY4nQuJ

Ballotpedia's founder & CEO, Leslie Graves, shares monthly insights on PBS's "Preserving Democracy." This month's column is on ballot measures. Ballot measures have been a staple of our civic life since at least the 17th century. Living up to our identity as the Encyclopedia of American Politics, Ballotpedia is undertaking a massive research effort to assemble a complete historical record of every ballot measure that has been on every state’s ballot. This body of work will provide an unparalleled resource for researchers, reporters, and the voting public on how ballot measures have evolved. In this column, Leslie details the way ballot measures serve as a marker for voters' attitudes and preferences. Read the full column here, and let us know what you think! https://lnkd.in/eWjtfgRQ

Millions of Americans will vote this year, casting ballots in primaries, special elections, and the November general election for thousands of local, state, and national offices. Millions of Americans who are eligible to vote, also won’t vote. What those millions of non-voters represent is a symptom of our nation’s growing ballot information problem. Read what Ballotpedia's Founder, Leslie Graves, believes is the antidote to the ballot information problem, and what Ballotpedia is doing to help solve this problem. Leslie's newest column in Preserving Democracy is available now: https://lnkd.in/eEZJPZD4
