Co-pilot for doctors and nurses — empowering clinicians with real-time care signals to manage outcomes and cost.
About us
Bayesian Health offers an adaptive AI/ML platform that forecasts declining trajectories within a hospital/health system’s patient population. The research-backed platform is designed to empower providers with the ability to identify and intervene with next-best actions in a timely way. This is accomplished by sending accurate and actionable clinical signals for a wide range of critical condition areas within the EMR and existing workflows. As a result, physicians and care team members are able to catch life-threatening complications much earlier, leading to better patient outcomes and reductions in healthcare costs. This pioneering approach is referred to as Intelligent Care Augmentation. Why the name “Bayesian”? Optimal decision making relies on being good at pulling together lots of relevant data, knowing what to trust, integrating these data to create forecasts, and updating forecasts as new data arrive. That’s a Bayesian way of reasoning. Bayesian Health leverages best in class AI/ML techniques to enable this for care teams because decisions around our health deserve the best data and inferences. Insights from speakers this morning at #DHSummit: 💡#AI has been around a long time, and the newness is where ABC’s meet math. We should consider it “actionable intelligence” used toward changing our ecosystem, not just as a technology substitution. AI won’t fix the system, but if you don’t embrace it as a clinician, you will be replaced by a clinician who does. (James Weinstein) 💡Providence has some incredible results toward reducing #clinicianburnout with AI. 85% of provider messages can be understood through #LLMs and overall administrative messages have decreased by almost 25% following implementation of AI. (Sara Vaezy) 💡Suchi Saria reminds us that “we can’t throw spaghetti at the wall” in this industry, there are consequences clinically and administratively. We must level up the care in our #modeldevelopment and give thought to the maintenance of model drifts and shifts. [Post 2 of 7]

I joined fellow health sector leaders at the Health Evolution Summit to discuss our shared responsibility in driving healthcare transformation. I shared how Mayo Clinic is leveraging AI to lead the platform transformation of healthcare, focusing on improving patient outcomes and advocating for its responsible use, while also reimagining our physical infrastructure to support the digital future of healthcare. I’m absolutely honored to have co-founded and to serve as a member of the Coalition for Health AI (CHAI)'s inaugural Board of Directors in our work to create guidelines for responsible use of AI in healthcare. Congratulations also to the great team of board of directors, advisors and health system and payor members who are joining us in this effort. I've spent the last decade building and deploying AI products. A lot of energy needs to go into verifying a product's performance before it is deployed and then it must be monitored. Best practices to ensure AI's accuracy and safety are not obvious to non-experts. Given the explosion of AI developers and the rapid pace of AI research, we need a way to ensure best practices are both clear and being followed. CHAI was created to address this gap in healthcare. Getting here was a lot of work over several years and looking forward to the next phase! https://bit.ly/3wBRUGJ The Johns Hopkins University Bayesian Health Johns Hopkins Medicine Johns Hopkins Whiting School of Engineering

Looking forward to VIVE. Speaking tomorrow afternoon mainstage on Gen AI... it won't be a whole lot of "buzz .. garbage .. AI ... generic word cloud" 😂 because the panel is moderated by the fabulous Sony Salzman, journalist and producer on ABC News. It also helps that the panel has a list of experienced AI doers! 😜 Related, if you haven't seen this video released this morning by the wonderful Tarun Kapoor, MD, MBA, I highly recommend it: https://lnkd.in/dkQC2ydx 😂 Join us! Will your LLM model generalize over time or across sites? How do we improve robustness? This is one of the main issues LLMs struggle with and especially critical as we apply these models to healthcare applications. 👇 New clever technique to improve LLM robustness and generalization. When a machine learning model makes "spurious correlations"—inaccurate predictions based on irrelevant details—it's a problem. When it's tasked with analyzing doctors' notes, those problems can be deadly. Spurious correlations are often caused by differences in templates, word choice or grammar. Professor Suchi Saria has a solution: Use LLMs to generate counterfactual data: doctor's notes in the styles of other doctors. “Given a specific note that we wish to rewrite in the style of some caregiver—say, Dr. Beth—we instead ask an LLM, ‘How would this note look had Dr. Beth written it?'" says Yoav Wald, now at NYU. The resulting datasets are resistant to learning faulty correlations based on writing style. They presented their new technique, “Data Augmentations for Improved (Large) Language Model Generalization” at the 37th Annual Conference on Neural Information Processing Systems in December.
