We’re encouraged to see the White House’s efforts to tackle administrative barriers that prevent those in need from receiving critical aid. In an executive order issued in 2021, President Biden directed agencies to reduce burdens and improve customer experience for government benefit programs with the aim of helping everyone who is eligible to be able to access and receive benefits. From FEMA to the Social Security Administration, agencies are making efforts to reduce paperwork and streamline application processes. With millions of Americans fighting to stay out of poverty, these efforts to create a more robust, effective, and equitable social safety net have never been more important.
