So psyched to see our Chief Academic Officer Pat Yongpradit get a shoutout from Reid Hoffman this week! At the ASU+GSV Summit, Pat discussed the role of AI in the future of education: https://lnkd.in/gAb3fxjr
About us
Code.org is a non-profit dedicated to expanding participation in computer science. Our vision is that every student in every school has the opportunity to learn how to code. We believe computer science and computer programming should be part of the core curriculum in education, alongside other science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) courses, such as biology, physics, chemistry and algebra.

✨It's #NationalAILiteracyDay! ✨ “A fundamental aspect of AI literacy is computer science (CS), yet there are still students who lack the opportunity to take a CS class. When people understand how AI works, such as its limitations and social impacts, they will also learn to use it effectively and responsibly.” — Pat Yongpradit, lead of TeachAI. The same goes for policymakers. Understanding AI helps decision-makers craft policies that promote its responsible use, access, and design. Learn more in TeachAI’s “Foundational Policy Ideas for AI in Education.” Visit the resource at https://brnw.ch/21wIYmf, and join today's webinar at 1 p.m. ET: https://brnw.ch/21wIYme

AI is reshaping the landscape of education — with benefits and risks that require thoughtful policy considerations. 🤔 To help leaders develop these innovative and responsible policies about teaching with and about AI, the #TeachAI initiative has created “Foundational Policy Ideas for AI in Education!" 👩🏫 Check it out at teachai.org/policy and register for informative webinars at teachai.org/webinars.

Grading a class of 25 coding projects can be very time-consuming. Now, imagine five CS classes and at least one project a week! Code.org just launched a public pilot of our new AI teaching assistant built into our Code Studio Platform. Here is how we are approaching the development of the tool. Elevating Teachers: In addition to a human in the final grading decision-making role, we incorporated a tutorial that highlights the information the tool provides to help teachers make their assessment. This includes an AI confidence score, rubric details, highlighted sections of code with assistive descriptions, tips for evaluation, and the ability to give feedback on the AI's accuracy. (Honestly, I think we may be giving too much info - teachers, let us know!) Improving Pedagogy: Our curriculum comes with professional development that is mostly about pedagogy versus content or the platform. This means learning how the AI tool can augment and complement the teacher, not just how the teacher can use the AI tool. Slowly: We are going from a couple dozen teachers to 300, then to 3000, so we can learn and adapt as needed. We want to continue working on accuracy (through fine-tuning), and upcoming models will help us get more accurate. Small Scope: We are using it in only one unit of one course for now (our middle school CS course). It is the unit that is most popular among novice CS teachers, who will benefit the most from the grading assistance and build their capacity to provide effective and timely feedback. This thing is far from perfect, so help us pilot it. Learn more and apply: https://brnw.ch/21wIGTk Shout out to Tess O'Brien, Sierra Michels Slettvet, and the rest of the Code.org team for being so intentional. Shout out to Chris Piech of the Stanford University Department of Computer Science for the partnership! #teachAI

All kids need to be more than recipients of the products of AI, they need to be the creators of the AI that creates the products that will make our world a better place. Great message on the #cosn2024 stage by Hadi Partovi !

It used to take one of our pilot teachers about 2 hours to grade assignments. Our new AI Teaching Assistant cut that time in HALF. Less time grading means more time providing individual support for every student. That's a win! 🏆 Want to try it?
