Does carsharing really have an impact? 🚘 We get this question quite often: how can we claim to be driven by #sustainability when we promote the use of cars? Well, we're promoting the use of shared cars instead of individual cars. 🤔 Why is that relevant you might ask? Because most of our cities are overcrowded and overburdened by cars, that remain parked 95% of the time. And unused cars take up precious urban space that could be used for pedestrian lanes, parks, or playgrounds. So, what’s the impact of #carsharing then? According to the latest ADEME study: 👉 1 shared car can replace up to 8 cars 👉 1 shared car can free up to 3 parking spots 👉 Carsharing users tend to to rely on more sustainable transportation options: biking (+22%), public transports (18%) & train (+29%) 🌎 For Earth Day, we wanted to imagine how our cities would look like if cars didn’t dominate them. Carsharing is a popular club to be in these days 😎 ✌️ We’re thrilled to announce that we have partnered up with the San José Mineta International Airport (SJC) to offer a #carsharing option for #travelers coming to visit the Capital of Silicon Valley. ✈️ Straight off the plane, visitors can continue their journey by accessing our peer-to-peer car #rental platform in designated airport zones. 🤝 This is not only an efficient and sustainable transportation alternative for travelers, but it also provides an opportunity for local community members to earn additional income from sharing their vehicles. We believe the future of driving is shared, and that includes within families and couples. What will carsharing look like in 2024 🤔? Predictions anyone? We didn’t really want to dive into specific data and bore everyone at the start of the new year, so we asked around, and realized the best experts were already in house. People who work on a daily basis to improve access to #carsharing and its experience. Carsharing is only for young people that live in cities. We’ve heard that one before. And spoiler alert 👉 its not. No truly, #carsharing is not only becoming more accessible (instant booking via app, connected cars, availability in your area and on demand…) it also saves costs vs owning a #car (insurance, taxes, parking…etc…) 🌱 But it’s also an opportunity for cities to have less cars on the streets and repurpose that space in a more sustainable way. Take 🇳🇴 for example, according to the Transportøkonomisk institutt (Norwegian Centre for Transport Research); privately owned cars are used for only half an hour a day on average 😱. This means that they mostly stand still and take up space in streets. Fewer cars in cities, means fewer parking spaces, more bike lanes and safer, greener areas. We’re not even saying it: Isak Solomon, climate advisor at the Climate Agency in Oslo municipality (aka Klimaetaten i Oslo kommune) has shared his data driven views with us.
