Do you remember when having health insurance meant you could go to the pharmacy, pay the $10 copay, and walk away with your prescription? I sure do. But now, it’s rarely that easy. Insurance–whether it’s commercial, Medicare or Medicaid–is covering fewer medications and what it does cover is riddled with restrictions. This is causing patients to increasingly turn to cash pay so they can get more affordable prices. With this in mind, we must find ways to make cash prices more accessible and we can start by reimagining what health plans look like. The next-generation of health insurance needs to be fully integrated–cash prices and funded prices should be ubiquitous. I shared my thoughts with Newsweek on how reengineering health plans will better support all stakeholders in the prescription ecosystem. https://lnkd.in/euGdGEnV
