I had the pleasure of joining the #TheMarTechSummit in London. It was a full day of exchanging insights, inspiration, and discussions about marketing strategy and technology. My main takeaways: 1) Rusty Warner from Forrester predicted that in 2024, half of CMOs will pursue a #martech ecosystem integration over a marketing cloud solution. The main reasons to prefer a combination of vendors over a one-stop-shop are: - No single vendor provides a 100% complete solution. - Best-of-breed solutions complement core functionality. - Integration should be treated as a critical investment criterion. 2) David Delbridge of CACI Ltd talked about the main challenges of effectively harnessing data: - Data is locked in legacy platforms and inaccessible to marketers. - Data is available in warehouses/data lakes but unusable due to its format. - Data is accessible but creates limited value due to latency. His recommended approach is to 1) start with defining use cases, 2) redraw the architecture, and 3) adopt the technology by focusing on people and processes. 3) Leonie van der Sleen of Hightouch explained that traditional CDPs often create a second source of truth. Therefore, a composable CDP approach is preferable, where you apply extra capabilities like audience activation, identity resolution, and intelligence on top of your data warehouse.
