To the Salesforce Engineers in my network: stop referring to yourself as Salesforce Engineers. As a former employee, I love the company and I love the platform, but you're doing yourself a disservice. To the traditional software engineers in my network: stop referring to yourself as solely a software engineer. A lot of companies don't (think they) need software engineers: they need smart engineers who can help them automate processes with whatever tools they have at their disposal. If I learned anything before, during, and now after my time at the Salesforce mothership, and if I'm pushing any singular thought across Reach Financial, it's that the best engineers in the world and the kinds of engineers I want to work with are "Automation Engineers" — folks who will use any and the best technology at hand to automate processes with the simplest, cleanest, lowest maintenance, and highest scalability solution as they drive to deliver clear OpEx value back to the business. Salesforce is one of the best automation platforms in the business, but don't sleep on the increasingly-powerful and increasingly-packaged lego block potential of Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Snowflake alongside it. Only with all three of these toolkits can you truly automate everything at scale. You're not a Salesforce Engineer. You're not a Software Engineer. You're a Digital Automation Engineer.
