With the Paris Games just a few short months away, Monica Rivera, our Vice President of Education, Training, & Research, and Hannah Hinton, Esq., our Vice President of Organizational Development & Compliance, took a trip to the host city. They met with representatives from the United States Olympic & Paralympic Committee and toured the Palais Brongniart, where Team USA will be headquartered, and the Team USA High Performance Center, where athletes will train while competing. An athlete’s well-being is just as important as an athlete’s accommodations. By understanding the spaces and environments that athletes will occupy, the Center can better support athletes at the Games and advocate for safer sport settings. #AthleteSafety #AbusePrevention #Athlete #Sports #Paris #USCenterForSafeSport #EndAbuse

About us
The U.S. Center for SafeSport is an independent national nonprofit organization responsible for responding to and preventing emotional, physical, and sexual misconduct and abuse in the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Movement. We also serve as an educational resource for sports organizations at all level, from recreational to professional. Founded in 2017 by Congressional mandate, in the wake of highly publicized cases of athlete abuse, our staff is growing rapidly, now numbering over 100 in nearly 30 states. We recruit talented humans in a wide array of fields, from investigations and law to education and training, to audit and compliance, to marketing and communications. Our values of respect, accountability, inclusivity, integrity and wellness underscore all we do, and our passion for our work inspires us daily to build a culture—throughout our team and among athletes and allies everywhere—in which everyone feels safe, supported, and strengthened. If you have experienced abuse or misconduct—or if you have reasonable suspicion of abuse or misconduct inflicted on, or by, someone in the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Movement report here: https://uscenterforsafesport.org/report-a-concern/ To ensure the U.S. Center for SafeSport’s social media channels remain a place that is welcoming and constructive, U.S. Center for SafeSport (Center) administrators reserve the right to moderate comments, including deletion of replies or other content and interactions they deem to be in violation of the Center’s Social Media Community Standards (found below) or in violation of the social media platform’s community standards. U.S. Center for SafeSport reposted this
Last week, the U.S. Department of Justice announced that after several years, they are settling with sexual abuse #survivors for nearly $139 million. While the amount itself is staggering (although the total surpasses $1 billion across multiple settlements), what struck me was the statement made by Acting Associate Attorney General Benjamin Mizer, not because it is profound, but because it is obvious: "These allegations should have been taken seriously from the outset." Allegations should always be taken seriously. Accountability is part of #culture change and it’s what survivors deserve. This is what drives us every day at the U.S. Center for SafeSport. https://lnkd.in/g57BzG2F #linkedinsports #abuseprevention #prevention #athletics #athletesafety

Last week, we attended NIRSA’s annual conference, where we connected with like-minded college and university recreation programs and wellness professionals from across the country. Over several impactful days, we engaged with conference-goers and attendees about our work to end abuse in sport and promote athlete wellbeing. And we walked away with a feeling of gratitude for having met so many who, like us, believe in the benefits of a safe sport environment. #Athletics #Sports #AbusePrevention #Athletes #AthleteSafety #USCenterForSafeSport #EndAbuse
