To commemorate Hispanic Heritage Month (Sept. 15-Oct. 15), Juntos, Vroom’s Hispanic/Latin Employee Resource Group (ERG), organized festivities and information sessions aimed at celebrating the different histories and cultures within its community. “There are 21 countries in Latin America, and while most of us share the Spanish language, each country and culture is unique and beautiful,” says Lead Process Excellence Specialist and Juntos Co-Lead Daniel Barrera. “Hispanic Heritage Month serves as a reminder to celebrate and support that diversity.” Throughout each week, Juntos shared insights and stories about Hispanic/Latin people, places, and traditions with colleagues at Vroom and UACC. The group also devoted its monthly meet-up, known as “Cafecito,” to an open discussion about the origins of popular terms, such as Hispanic, Latino/a, LatinX, Chican/a, Afrolatino/a, and their impact on personal identity. To wrap up the month, Juntos, supported by Vroom’s Fun Committee and members of the Black Excellence (BE!) and Women @ Vroom Empowered (W@VE) ERGs, hosted two events — one at Vroom’s Houston office and the other at UACC’s Fort Worth location. The lively gatherings featured games, traditional appetizers and sweets, and a Salsa lesson led by a popular Houston-based dance instructor. “Our goals as an ERG are to create a safe space for Vroom’s Hispanic/Latin community to come together and to introduce others to our dynamic culture,” says Transaction Specialist and Juntos Co-Lead Malhissa Reyes. “This event checked both of those boxes, and it was a joy to witness.” #hispanicheritagemonth #erg #whatdrivesyou

In August, Black Excellence (BE!), the Employee Resource Group that celebrates and empowers Vroom’s Black community, initiated a back to school drive in support of Houston-based Isaacs Elementary School’s Special Education Program. BE members nationwide contributed much-needed learning aids and supplies, and last month, the group presented Mrs. Saunders, Isaacs Elementary’s dedicated Special Education Chair, with more than $1,700 worth of laptops, earphones, bean bags, stim toys, and more. “Ninety-seven percent of families at Isaacs are considered economically disadvantaged, and 11 percent are enrolled in Mrs. Saunders’ Special Ed program,” says BE! Co-Lead Odera Chuke. “This back to school drive was a way for us to come together to support an exceptional teacher, her young learners, and our community.” #community #erg #dei #whatdrivesyou

For our final National Truck Driver Appreciation Week spotlight, we’re highlighting Riverside, CA, and Miami, FL, two teams who happen to be on opposite sides of the country, yet still share a passion for going above and beyond. Riverside Team: ○ Team members (from left): Aaron, Rudy, Ivan, Justin, Jesse, Steve, Dustin, Andres, Joshua, and Cynthia (not pictured: Diego)   ○ Combined years of driving and automotive experience: 81   ○ Team motto: “Keep your eyes on the prize.” ○ Favorite music to drive to: Classic rock, rachera, reggaeton, rap, and everything in between.    ○ Favorite team lunch spot: “Tummy Stuffer. It’s a family-owned business serving more than 100 different types of sandwiches.” ○ Favorite delivery moment: “Last Christmas season, Andres and Dustin delivered cars while dressed up as Santa and Buddy from the movie Elf. It was a lot of fun.” Miami Team: ○ Team members (from left): Delano, Rolando, Nicholas, and Aleck ○ Combined years of driving and automotive experience: 20-plus  ○ Team motto: “It’s always a good day when we have work to do.”  ○ Favorite music to drive to: Sports and business podcasts    ○ Favorite team lunch spot: “Flanigans. It’s a South Florida staple, and they have the best ribs.”  ○ Fun Fact: “There are gators and iguanas right outside our lot, it’s a little bit wild.”  ○ Favorite delivery moment: “A customer who purchased a Kia Niro on Feb. 10 as a Valentine’s Day gift for his wife. The car was in Portland when he bought it, so there was no way it would get to Miami in time. When it did arrive, we went all out like it was still Valentine’s Day, dressing it with bright red balloons and attaching a big bow to the hood. In the end, I think the husband was more excited than the wife!” #truckdriverappreciationweek #truckerappreciationweek #thankatrucker #truckdriver
