Interested in exploring data and finding innovative ways to collect, curate, and make it easily accessible for others to use? How about doing that at scale? Yelp’s unique dataset contains billions of interactions between users and local businesses around the globe. If working with such a vast amount of data sounds exciting, come join us!

As a Data Backend Engineer on the Consumer Data and Analytics team at Yelp, you’ll be responsible for building elegant and scalable data products that serve critical, up-to-date, structured information to support different types of analytics and machine learning across Yelp. You'll design and own mission-critical data pipelines to enable decision-making, partner with company leaders to create scalable data products, and launch innovative data processing solutions.

Yelp engineering culture is driven by our values: we’re a cooperative team that values individual authenticity and encourages creative solutions to problems. All new engineers deploy working code their first week, and your impact will only grow from there with the support of your manager, mentor, and team. At the end of the day, we’re all about helping our users, growing as engineers, and having fun in a collaborative environment.

This opportunity requires you to be located in the Republic of Ireland.

We’d love to have you apply, even if you don’t feel you meet every single requirement in this posting. At Yelp, we’re looking for great people, not just those who simply check off all the boxes.

What It Takes to Succeed:

    • A passion for working with, and making sense of, large volumes of data.
    • A hunger for tracking down root causes, no matter how deep it takes you—and fixing them in systematic ways.
    • Experience building data pipelines to train and deploy machine learning models and/or ETL pipelines for metrics and analytics or product feature use cases.
    • Exposure to some of the following technologies: Python, Java, Scala, Apache Spark, Apache Kafka, Apache Flink, AWS and service oriented architecture, AWS Redshift, AWS Athena / Apache Presto, AWS S3, NoSQL systems like Cassandra.

    • You may also be offered a bonus, Restricted Stock Units, and benefits.
    • A competitive benefits package that includes paid time off, wellbeing programs, wellness and remote work reimbursement and more.
    • Flexible working hours and meeting-free Wednesdays.
    • Regular 3-day Hackathons, bi-weekly learning groups, and productivity spending to support and encourage your career growth.
