The Data Science Team: 

The Data Science team at JW Player uses the billions of data points that we collect from our video player and products to create novel data products and improve existing products through research and experimentation. We develop models to meet critical business needs, and we champion a data-driven culture at JW Player.

The Opportunity:

JW Player is looking for a Data Scientist to join our internationally growing team. As a Data Scientist, you will be a part of a collaborative, creative, multidisciplinary team of Data Scientists, Engineers and Analysts. This is an exciting opportunity to make an impact with R&D decisions, product analytics, and machine learning models for one of the most innovative companies in the video space. 

As a Data Scientist, you will:

  • Develop and support predictive models used millions of times daily
  • Leverage data to research, envision, and implement improvements to JW products
  • Envision and define requirements for new data sources
  • Work with engineers to envision and build end to end solutions
  • Work with Product Managers to answer key questions about JW Player products
  • Plan, execute, and analyze controlled experiments
  • Influence the direction of the business by effectively communicating results to cross functional groups
  • Democratize data by building and sharing tools and dashboards
  • Provide expertise on machine learning concepts for the broader Data Team and inspire the adoption of data science across the entire breadth of our organization

Requirements of the role:

  • 1+ years experience of developing data science products
  • An advanced degree in an analytical field such as (but not limited to!) statistics, computer science, mathematics, operations research, engineering, natural sciences, economics
  • Fluency in Python and libraries such as pandas, Numpy, Scipy, & Scikit-learn
  • Knowledgeable and experienced with statistical modeling and machine learning
  • High proficiency with SQL and relational databases
  • Exceptional data visualization skills
  • Good organization skills, ability to lead multidisciplinary projects
  • An ability to story tell with data to technical and non-technical audiences

Bonus Points:

  • Experience building analytics pipelines with tools like Airflow and/or dbt
  • Experience with deep learning frameworks like Tensorflow
  • Experience with Looker
  • Knowledge of video, video advertising
  • Familiarity with big data tools like Spark and Presto
