In this Machine Learning Engineering Manager role:

Our AI team consists of talented machine learning engineers and data scientists who work side by side to build industry leading AI solutions in the insurance space. Our Machine Learning engineers are primarily responsible for designing and building our platform, which facilitates the quick development and deployment of machine learning models. They also work closely with and support our data scientists and other analytics professionals in other ways on an as-needed basis.

In addition to the usual role of managing a strong team of machine learning engineers, the Machine Learning Engineering Manager will work closely with our dedicated product manager, senior engineers and data scientists, and other stakeholders, to define, plan, and deliver deployed models and tooling to support Clearcover’s ambitious machine learning roadmap.

What will you do as a Machine Learning Engineering Manager?

  • Lead a team of Machine Learning Engineers in building our platform for creating and deploying machine learning models
  • Be responsible for the on-time delivery of our ML roadmap with high quality, performance, and scalability 
  • Build out career laddering for ML engineers and coach your team to ensure they progress in their career goals
  • Work closely with data scientists to anticipate future data needs and help deploy models rapidly and at scale
  • Build measurable goals with your team and direct reports and ensure they are meeting or exceeding those goals
  • Communicate with technical and non-technical stakeholders to help them understand the processes as risks necessary for building our machine learning capabilities
  • Execute end-to-end software development and deployment in an agile environment 
  • Foster a collaborative and inclusive team that helps each other with a willingness to learn and teach each other
  • Mentor, coach, and grow engineers
  • Play a key role in people-related initiatives including recruiting, onboarding, performance reviews, training, career advancement, etc.
  • Embrace and champion agile development practices and function as the day to day scrum master on directly managed team(s)

What do you need as a Machine Learning Engineering Manager?

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, related field, or equivalent experience
  • Experience in software design and development
  • Experience managing a team of software engineers, preferably in machine learning or data science
  • Understanding of machine learning techniques, tools, and capabilities
  • Proven expertise in agile software development
  • Experience hiring, mentoring, coaching and developing top engineering talent with a focus on increasing diverse perspectives
  • Successful track record of managing small teams of engineers and project management skills, preferably in a machine learning environment
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to understand and explain machine learning and related technical subjects to a non-technical audience
  • Ability to provide honest, direct and actionable feedback to the team and follow up with relevant coaching and guidance

What would make you an exceptional candidate?

  • Master’s degree in Computer Science, related field, or equivalent experience
  • Insurance industry experience
