We’re looking for an Engineering Manager to lead our Data Management team that builds and operates systems that move, process, aggregate, store, and analyze the company’s most critical shared datasets. This role reports to the Engineering Director, Data Ecosystem.
Responsibilities will include:
- Provide technical oversight and drive new features focusing on Garner’s strategic mission.
- Build and operate scalable, resilient data systems contributing to the target state data architecture.
- Enforce rigorous and standardized data modeling and governance practices.
- Contribute to developing a world-class data platform that supports data science, analytics, product, and engineering needs across the company.
- Influence relevant product and engineering roadmaps to ensure all data systems interoperate with a unified data ecosystem and oversee seamless migrations as necessary.
- Champion and ensure the privacy and security of our users’ data.
- Provide leadership and guidance to your team, fostering a culture of excellence, collaboration, and accountability.
- Mentor, grow, and recruit Garner’s next generation of engineering leaders.
The ideal candidate has:
- 7+ years of experience working in the software engineering industry.
- 4+ years of experience working in a data engineering function.
- 2+ years of experience managing engineering teams.
- 2+ years of experience building big data systems handling at-scale data ingestion, processing, and/or storage.
- 2+ years of experience working with data governance practices.
- Expert in dimensional modeling, schema design, and storage/query optimization in cloud-based environments (e.g., Snowflake, BigQuery, Redshift).
- Demonstrated ability to translate complex business requirements into a well-executed technical roadmap.
- Experience with big data technologies such as Argo, Apache Iceberg, AWS Glue, Spark, Metaflow, DBT, and Soda.
- Experience working with data science platforms, machine learning infrastructure, or data governance systems.
- Experience with cloud infrastructure (e.g., AWS, GCP).
- Experience managing regulated data is highly desirable.
- Familiarity with healthcare data standards (e.g., HIPAA, EDI) is highly desirable.
- Exceptional leadership and people management skills, with a proven ability to inspire and lead a high-performing team.
- A willingness to “roll up your sleeves” and do whatever is necessary to ensure company success
- Experience working in a rapidly evolving startup environment

The target salary range for this position is $225,000 - $240,000. Individual compensation for this role will depend on various factors, including qualifications, skills, and applicable laws. In addition to base compensation, this role is eligible to participate in our equity incentive and competitive benefits plans.
