We are looking for an experienced Product Data Analyst to lead strategic planning, development, and execution of product data and insights initiatives across our GitHub Product organization. This role will sit within the Business Planning team and provide dedicated support to our Chief Product Officer.

As the Product Data Analyst, you will be responsible for building out our Product profitability framework and taxonomy structure to measure the performance and health of individual Product lines. You will work closely cross-functionally with sales, product management, strategic finance, data operations, and engineering to gather, analyze, and integrate data to support informed decision-making for the executive leadership team.

Responsibilities

Product Health Reporting

  • Develop and implement a portfolio-wide product profitability framework and taxonomy structure that aligns with GitHub's financial objectives and enables effective measurement and analysis of product performance.
  • Identify and define key performance indicators (KPIs) and metrics to assess the financial performance of GitHub's products establishing reporting mechanisms to monitor progress and bring actionable insights to drive business results. 
  • Collaborate with product management and finance teams to gather requirements and ensure the accuracy, integrity, and consistency of financial data related to product profitability.

Data Analysis and Insights

  • Partner closely with GitHub’s product, sales, customer, and finance data teams to collect, validate, and analyze financial and usage data from various data sources to identify trends, patterns, and opportunities for optimizing product profitability.
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive reporting, dashboards, and visualizations that provide insights and recommendations to senior management and product stakeholders.
  • Conduct in-depth analysis including modeling and forecasting to support strategic decision-making related to product pricing, cost optimization, and resource allocation.
  • Provide data-driven recommendations to optimize product profitability, identify areas of improvement, and drive operational efficiencies across Product teams.

Data Governance and Management

  • Establish and maintain data governance policies, standards, and procedures to ensure the accuracy, integrity, and security of financial data.
  • Monitor data quality and consistency, identify and resolve data issues, and implement controls to prevent data errors and discrepancies.
  • Collaborate with the Data Operations team to implement and maintain appropriate data infrastructure, tooling, and access to support business intelligence initiatives related to product profitability.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 5+ years experience in business intelligence, financial analysis, or data related roles retrieving, analyzing and manipulating large datasets with SQL queries.
  • Prior experience with Power BI or high proficiency in other data analytics tools.
  • Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams across many different stakeholders and senior leaders.

Preferred Qualifications

  • General understanding of business practice, financial principles and product strategy.
  • Strong business acumen and ability to influence key stakeholders to make data-driven decisions across both Product and GTM functions.
  • Excellent communication skills with ability to quickly turnaround complex tasks. 
  • Ability to analyze data, track patterns, and identify trends that impact business performance.

Minimum salary of $73,500 to maximum $195,000

In addition, certain roles also have the opportunity to earn sales incentives based on revenue or utilization, depending on the terms of the plan and the employee's role.

These pay ranges are intended to cover roles based across the United States. An individual's base pay depends on various factors including geographical location and review of experience, knowledge, skills, abilities of the applicant. At GitHub certain roles are eligible for benefits and additional rewards, including annual bonus and stock. These rewards are allocated based on individual impact in role.


Location: In this role, you can work remotely from anywhere in the United States.
