We are looking for a Senior Data Scientist to lead our Data Science efforts in Reddit Search and to partner with our Search Relevance and UX teams to drive analysis, experimentation, and user understanding for Reddit Search. Generating billions of events and terabytes of data a day, we’re in the unique position to revolutionize content discovery on the internet. We are overhauling Reddit’s search and relevancy infrastructure, and we depend on data to make sure that we can trust our decisions and constantly improve the Reddit discovery experience.

As a Senior Data Scientist for Search you will join a small but growing team and will help us expand beyond the front page and better connect users to the specific content they care about. You will also have access to one of the coolest data sets in the world that empowers NLP applications, IR applications, and social network analysis. This is an exciting opportunity to dig into the data behind the “front page of the internet.” 

What You’ll Do:

• Conduct exploratory analyses on understanding Search to help shape the work the team undertakes.
• Identify the signals that can be best leveraged to connect users, through Search, to the communities and content that will inspire them to contribute posts or comments
• Define, build and track success metrics for Search experience.
• Develop tools to help analyze the movement of the metrics and help the team understand why their changes impact the metrics.
• Continuously improve the metrics in terms of sensitivity, actionability, and fidelity to the user experience.
• Ensure high-quality and trustworthy Search experiment results and ensure that experimental designs lead to action.
• Define metric goals and make them easily available through ETLs (extract/transform/load) and reporting dashboards.
• Communicate findings and co-design strategy with the most senior leaders in our organization

Who You Might Be:

• 5+ years of experience in quantitative or data science roles, preferably for a consumer-facing service/app
• 2+ years of experience focused on a search product or feature
• Able to design, interpret, and act on A/B experiments.
• Familiar with statistical analysis and programming languages (e.g., R / Python)
• Proficient with querying relational databases (e.g., SQL)
• Results-oriented with a strong customer and business focus
• Entrepreneurial and self-directed, demonstrated ability to innovate and bias toward action in fast-paced environments
• Able to communicate and discuss complex topics with technical and non-technical audiences
• Able to tackle ambiguous and undefined problems
