About the Team

The team is responsible for building and evolving Scribd’s content and metadata ingestion systems, publisher payout (royalties) pipelines, and the tools that enable our Content Operations team to manage the availability and quality of our large corpus of premium content. Our team has a variety of exciting challenges to tackle over the coming months and years. We continue to evolve and scale our content platform to enable Scribd’s continued focus on providing our customers a rich catalog of content and innovating how users discover and consume what’s most interesting and relevant for them.

You’ll have the opportunity to work with an awesome and diverse team using various technologies. For the role you will:

- Work closely with other engineers and product managers to design and build robust and scalable metadata ingestion, lifecycle, and management systems.
- Help drive the modernizing of our data pipelines and backend systems
- Evaluate and pitch new technologies and data integrations
- Own the entirety of your features, from design, implementation, testing, and rollout.
- Help identify gaps and improve the team’s instrumentation and monitoring of team-owned systems
- Help empower your teammates and peers by mentoring individuals, cultivating pragmatic engineering decision-making, and leveraging your technical expertise to constantly raise the quality of design decisions and implementation by holding the team to a high standard.
Our Tech Stack

Our team uses numerous technologies and will continue to leverage the best tools available. The following are ones we use on a regular basis: Ruby on Rails, Sidekiq, MySQL, Scala, Spark, Airflow, Databricks, Redis, AWS (SQS, Lambda, Transfer), and Terraform.

What We Are Looking For:

- 6+ years experience as a backend engineer shipping production-level systems
- A polyglot with programming skills in Ruby or similar object-oriented languages.
- Experience in Scala/Spark or a strong desire to learn
- Great communication – you can communicate effectively and proactively with teammates and stakeholders across different functions
- You are self-driven and motivated to learn and grow while contributing to the challenging and impactful opportunities ahead of our team and Scribd.
- You have a team-first mentality, value collaboration, and show up positively for your teammates and colleagues.
