Analytics Engineering is a brand new field at the interface between Data Science and Data Platform, and also a brand new team at Reddit. As the Sr. Manager for Analytics Engineering, you will lead the entire Analytics Engineering area and will create, evangelize and execute on the vision of Analytics Engineering for the entire company. You will partner with key stakeholders in Data Science, Product, Engineering and other functions across all Consumer Product areas, Ads, Sales and Marketing to democratize Reddit’s wealth of data.

Google, Microsoft, Facebook, and OpenAI have all trained their premier text models using Reddit data because we have one of the single most important corpora of conversational data in the world. We are the 6th most trafficked site on the internet and as such generate an enormous volume of content and activity on a daily basis. Responsibilities:

  • You will be the leader of Analytics Engineering at Reddit. You will create, grow and nurture a world-class team of Analytics Engineers embedded across the organization. 
  • You will partner and collaborate closely with Data Science and Data Platform leaders to bring Reddit into a new phase of Data Democratization, and as a result, play a key role in the path to achieve Reddit’s mission of bringing community, belonging and empowerment to everyone in the world.
  • The Analytics Engineering team will focus on the curation of domain-specific effective and performant data assets to empower Data Scientists and analytical users and to accelerate the path to growth across the organization. You will 
    • Transform, test and deploy clean and performant data tables for analysis.
    • Apply software engineering best practices (version control, continuous integration, etc) to the analytics code base.
    • Build and maintain advanced dashboards / data visualizations in collaboration with Data Science.
    • Maintain data and metrics documentation & definitions.
    • Addition of data assets that are structured to support easy addition of metrics and segments to the Experimentation platform.
    • Addition of features to ML ranking systems.
    • Flagging potential data quality issues to relevant partners in Data Platform and Product Engineering.
    • Set standards for the Data Science & Analytics organization for long-term success.

Required Qualifications:

  • Technical Experience
    • 10+ years of experience working in a Data function (8+ if you have a masters, 6+ if you have a PhD)
    • Advanced Python, SQL, Git knowledge.
    • 4+ years of experience working with a Data Warehouse environment (BigQuery, etc) and creating reusable data assets ready to be used by DS and other stakeholders.
    • 4+ years of experience working with large scale ETL systems, Airflow, other data processing tools.
    • 4+ years of experience programming clean, maintainable, object-oriented code in a production environment.
    • Experience driving day to day execution using development process to maintain a consistent sprint velocity.

    • Experience building, managing and coaching engineering and/or Data Science teams.
    • Excellent communication skills about complex, technical topics to collaborate with Data Scientists and other cross-functional stakeholders.
