Mode is a remote-first company with cross-functional teams based throughout the US. We welcome applicants from all 50 states. Employees based in the San Francisco area also have the option to work out of our office as desired.

We've built Mode from the ground up to be the best analytics platform for Analysts and Data Scientists. As we've grown, an increasingly broad audience—people on teams from Finance to Operations, Marketing to Engineering, and everything in between—has begun to use Mode to collaborate with Analysts and use data in everyday decisions. For our customers, Mode is the central place where data experts and domain experts can come together to make sense of data at the rapid pace of business today.

We are looking for a senior leader to manage our Data Science organization and empower others to make analytical and creative business decisions throughout Mode. You and your team will partner across the organization to build and own our data technology stack, our key metrics and reporting resources, our strategic research efforts, and our operational data tools that help everyone at Mode make better, faster, and more effective decisions.

What you'll do:

  • Lead and manage Mode’s data team, including its vision, strategy, and roadmap.
  • Build organizational processes to scale a growing team, including recruiting, onboarding, and day-to-day operational management.
  • Work with executive stakeholders across every function of the business to understand their business needs, and to design strategies to support their teams’ needs.
  • Oversee the development of internal resources, tools, and technologies that empower everyone at Mode to have access to reliable metrics and insightful analyses.
  • Be the flag-bearer for Mode’s data culture—champion the work of the data team, and drive analytical best practices across the company.
  • Share your work with the Mode community in the form of open-source resources, blog posts, and community talks.

What we look for:

  • Prior experience leading a data team and owning an organization’s data function, while working collaboratively with other departments and leadership teams.
  • Significant experience working with diverse business stakeholders, contributing key insights that helped the organization execute and grow.
  • Inclusive, thoughtful, and proven management skills. You proactively find space for everyone’s voice to be heard, and have developed your team culture around mentorship and growth opportunities that lead to high performance outcomes.
  • Deep technical expertise in data science, analytics, or related fields.
  • Experience using tools in the modern data stack, such as Snowflake, Fivetran, Mode, dbt, and others.
  • Excellent communication skills with a demonstrated ability to explain technical concepts and insights to a variety of audiences.
