Analyst, Community Data & Evaluation

Summary

The Wikimedia Foundation is looking for an Analyst to help advance the Wikimedia movement’s vision --  every human being able to freely share in the sum of all knowledge -- as well as its strategic direction -- that by 2030, Wikimedia will become the essential infrastructure of the ecosystem of free knowledge, and anyone who shares our vision will be able to join us. 

As the Analyst for Community Data & Evaluation, you will report to the Business Intelligence Manager as part of the Global Data & Insights team in the Technology Department. The role of the Global Data & Insights team is to support the intentional use of data and insights to inform decision-making about strategy and programs. Our overall vision is to foster a culture of evaluation, reflection, and learning so that the Wikimedia Foundation and Wikimedia Movement are equipped to create meaningful social change. 

You are responsible for:

• Assisting in planning, designing, and disseminating surveys to Wikimedia movement members
• Supporting the cleaning, restructuring, analyzing, and summarizing of quantitative and qualitative data
• Synthesizing data from multiple discrete evaluations to provide insight into program impact and progress 
• Identifying useable trends and themes across datasets that can inform reports and decision-making, particularly related to our improving diversity, equity, & inclusion across Wikimedia spaces on and offline.
• Assisting in sharing findings both internally to the Wikimedia Foundation and to our communities

Skills and Experience:

• Fluent in English
• Bachelor’s degree and two years related experience or a Master’s degree; or equivalent work experience in data analysis, data science, research and analytics or a related field
• Attention to detail and the ability to work systematically to ensure accuracy and quality
• Experience with developing social science research tools
• Experience summarizing data for reporting and analyzing datasets using Excel, Google Sheets, and other statistical software (e.g. Python, R, Python, SPSS, STATA, etc.)
• Ability to summarize research findings in an accessible manner for broader public audiences
• Experience with ethical data management and privacy practices.
