Position Overview

Buzzer is seeking an Analytics Engineer to join the Data Analytics and Engineering team to play a critical role in growing and scaling the business by evolving our analytics infrastructure and distilling meaningful insights.

This role requires a proven understanding of data ingestion, transformation, and testing methodologies, particularly around mobile app user data. The candidate will create processes to efficiently extract and operationalize these data for cross-functional storytelling and consumption. The ideal candidate should have experience collaborating with both Engineering and Product teams to create robust, cloud-based data pipelines that are amenable to enhancements for both scaling of new data resources, as well as iterative improvements of issues identified through structured deep-dives and regressions. The candidate should also have experience maintaining and evolving database and visualization tools (in our case, Looker), to help surface insights around areas such as user engagement/growth, partnership reporting, and Buzzer’s “North Star” KPIs.

Buzzer is presently a fully distributed team, which will require this individual to be collaborative, proactive, and comfortable working remotely. This role will report directly to the Analytics Manager in the Data Organization.

In this role, you will:

  • Create and maintain data pipelines to ingest raw data, third party or internal, into our data warehouse (BigQuery).
  • Create and maintain data models in dbt to transform the raw data into our reporting tables.
  • Identify and improve upon deficiencies in our existing models and pipelines, with focus on performance and accuracy.
  • Work with product and engineering teams to help design the shape of data, and formalize the exchange of data between our teams.
  • Assist in the migration of our data models from dbt Cloud to dbt CLI, including the incorporation of an orchestration tool (e.g. Airflow) and programming language (Python).
  • Troubleshoot and resolve data pipeline issues and implement data observability and quality mechanisms to automate interventions.

Required Qualifications

  • BA/BS degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 3+ years of analytics engineering and pipelining experience, preferably at a B2C technology company.
  • 3+ years of experience implementing and supporting self-serve product analytics, dta transformation, and visualization tools (e.g. Firebase, Google Analytics, BigQuery, dbt, OneSignal, Tableau, Power BI, Looker).
  • Strong experience with SQL; experience with NoSQL, Python, and parsing of various data formats.
  • An understanding of the flow and transformation of data from raw to consumable, including an understanding of data and analytics methodologies.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with workflow orchestration tools (e.g. Airflow).
  • Experience with Looker and LookML.
  • Experience in leveraging cloud services (e.g. AWS, GCP) to build and maintain scalable data pipelines.
  • Experience working in an agile environment with 2-week sprints.
  • Experience working on a distributed team.
  • Experience at a start-up and or technology company.
  • Experience with sports media applications and or design.
