Platform.sh is happy to announce that we are seeking an Analytics Engineer to join as a founding member of our Data and Analytics department.  The mission of the Data and Analytics Department is to make Platform.sh smarter by enabling a deeper understanding of our customers and our internal operations.  We do this by wrangling an enormous pile of platform events and operational business data into insights that Platform.sh can use to make better decisions and a better product for our users.

Candidates should be very comfortable writing SQL. This is a SQL first position and we use DBT to manage the Transform layer between the user and the raw data in BigQuery.  It’d be great if you have opinions on BI and visualization tools like Tableau, Metabase, and Looker.  

Responsibilities include:

• Learning the ins and outs of how our data is represented in our BigQuery warehouse.  We use a combination of Fivetran and Prefect to import data from various sources into raw source tables.  Transforming, enriching, and relating these data with SQL and DBT into meaningful, business oriented data sets is the job.
• Communicating with various teams and departments about their reporting and analytics needs and delivering reports and data sets that help answer their questions.
• Light management and thorough knowledge of our internal reporting dashboarding tool, Metabase (though this may change in the future).

Requirements:

• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• A keen sense of organization, business process, and the big picture.
• An unquenchable curiosity not just to know what’s going on in every corner of the company, but a need to understand why.  The questions you answer and the insights that they give you will have an immediate impact on your coworkers, but not just that.  They will form the basis of stories that department heads use to guide their strategic decisions, that our CEO uses to guide the board, and someday that our PR department gives the Wall Street Journal about our unmitigated success.  
• Git, DBT, Python, Jupyter, and Platform.sh experience are all a bonus.
