About Banyan

We’re a growing team of more than 35 employees distributed across the US, with offices in New York and Chicago. Our investors include FinVC, TTV Capital, Motivate Ventures, and Manifold Group, and we have ambitions to become a major player in the future of fintech.

Position Overview

Banyan is looking for an Analytics Lead to join our ranks, who can lead the continued development of our Analytics & BI function. At Banyan, this function is focused on building analytics & business intelligence tools and dashboards, spearheading key analyses for core product and business insights, and supporting the discovery and development of nascent analytics-focused products alongside our Product function.

As Analytics Lead at Banyan, you’ll have an opportunity to lead and grow analytics across the company. To start, you’ll review metric and dashboard work the fledgling data team has done to date, and then take ownership of this work. You’ll interact with stakeholders from departments across the company, helping them develop KPIs and other analytics products and tools to meet the needs of the organization. You’ll be one of the first two dedicated analytics hires on the team, with the other being an analytics engineer, and report to the Director of Product Operations & Analytics. You’ll be positioned for increasing responsibility as the company grows, and the ideal candidate will have the desire to build both a base of analytics & BI tools and knowledge, as well as significantly influence building the team and analytics organization.

We are searching for someone who is not only passionate about our mission, but equally enjoys diving into data to surface key insights with the broader team as well as team and systems development. The ideal candidate is excited to adapt to the evolving priorities of a growing startup – which may mean analyzing and presenting on product performance for executives one day, while reviewing data models and metric definitions backing dashboards the next.

What you’ll do

  • Perform ad-hoc analyses for key sales efforts, proof-of-concepts, fundraising & investor reports, and product & growth experiments
  • Refine and develop new metrics in internal BI dashboard(s) and exploratory data products
  • Evaluate prospective partner, vendor, and client data as needed to understand quality and utility to Banyan’s product goals & strategy
  • Oversee team sprint planning and backlog grooming in collaboration with Analytics Engineering and Product stakeholders
  • Partner with data engineering, data operations, and other stakeholders to improve upstream processes of our core data platform and products (e.g. data requirements, quality thresholds, observability and monitoring)
  • Identify and recruit for key positions as the analytics department grows

What you bring

  • 4+ years of relevant working experience in analytics, business intelligence, and/or analytics engineering, preferably in a tech company or startup
  • Excellent SQL skills to explore data and build informative reports in BI tools
  • Experience with data evaluation, transformation, and modeling
  • Knowledge of statistical concepts and an analytical aptitude
  • Interest in and ability to collaborate with various departments across the organization to understand their data needs
  • Good communication and storytelling skills (written and verbal) to inform and persuade stakeholders
  • Attention to detail and desire for end-to-end ownership of deliverables
  • Self-motivated, proactive, and fairly autonomous; comfortable working in a fast-paced environment
  • Collaborative with a positive attitude, interest in learning, and strong sense of empathy

Bonus points for

  • Experience with Python in ETL and/or data analysis contexts
  • Experience with modern data stack tools (we use Looker, BigQuery, Hex, and soon-to-be dbt but are otherwise open to equivalent experience with other tools)
  • Experience managing analysts and/or analytics engineers
  • Familiarity with analytics engineering practices, e.g. LookML or dbt, version control and Github actions, etc.
  • Familiarity with retail media, CPG, or financial transaction data

We recognize that many great applicants will come with differing levels of experience and backgrounds (or may not have worked with the specific tools in our stack), so if you are interested in the role and passionate about our company vision and mission, but feel discouraged because you don’t match all the items, please apply anyway – there’s a good chance you also have important skills we haven’t stated and can grow into others.

Benefits

  • Competitive salary and equity
  • Medical, dental, vision, and life insurance plans
  • Short and Long term disability insurance
  • 401K
  • Flexible vacation policy
  • Paid parental leave
  • Learning and development initiatives & assistance
  • Work-from-home remotely, w/ occasional travel (job-dependent)
    • Option to work semi-regularly in office if located near Chicago, IL or New York, NY offices
