About BlueLabs

BlueLabs is a leading provider of analytics services and technology for a variety of industry clients: including government, business, and political campaigns. We help our clients optimize their engagements with individual customers, supporters, and stakeholders to achieve their goals. Simply put: we help our partners do the most good by getting the most from their data.

Today, our team of data analysts, scientists, engineers, and strategists come together from diverse backgrounds to share a passion for using data to solve the world’s greatest social and analytical challenges. We’ve served more than 400 organizations ranging from government agencies, advocacy groups, political campaigns, and businesses. Along the way, we’ve developed some of the most innovative tools available in analytics, media optimization, reporting, and influencer outreach-- serving a diverse set of industries, including the automotive, travel, consumer packaged goods, entertainment, healthcare, media, telecom, and more.

About the team:

The BlueLabs Civic Tech practice revolutionizes the way government agencies use data to reduce the friction between residents and the essential services they use. Our team develops deep expertise within the areas our clients care about most, then builds data programs that create impact at scale. We work closely with internal government innovation groups, and build on the analytics methodology pioneered in e-commerce, advocacy, politics, and consumer finance.

About the role:

This position is a hands-on leader who will provide intellectual leadership and mentorship to a motivated analytics team. The ideal candidate will be comfortable working with complex, interconnected data sources and eager to drive analysis that leads to impactful presentations. We’re not building a team for a day—this is a project for the long haul. More than anything else, we’re looking for people who are excited by our mission, love to create, are honest about what they know, fascinated by what they don’t, and relish the opportunity to work with people who value the same.

In this position you will:

  • Work with the Program Manager to set short-term goals and long-term initiatives for the data analysis team.
  • Provide day-to-day supervision, guidance, coaching, and intellectual leadership to team members.
  • Conduct and supervise analysis on data from disparate data sources to distill overall insights about trends – and exceptions to those trends.
  • Synthesize administrative data analysis (i.e. overall Medicare claims and enrollment) with medicare.gov usage info to help stakeholders gain an overall perspective on opportunities to improve digital services utilization.
  • Bridge the gap between data collection and analysis; you know how the data is collected so you can ultimately help individuals access healthcare.
  • Develop knowledge about the program so you can effectively put data in context – and help your team to do the same.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders and team members to troubleshoot problems and proactively create solutions.
  • Strive to support team excellence by developing high quality documentation and task management.
  • Help analysts take their work from 80% to done - quality checking results, adding context, or helping to organize raw analysis into stories and recommendations - and delivering products on sometimes short deadlines.

What we are seeking:

  • Someone who wants to lead and do. You think about what your team needs and how to help them grow and be effective. You effectively balance delegation and individual contribution.
  • The ability to apply a variety of skills - whether thinking strategically about how to develop an enduring process, digging deep into a complex data analysis, or putting yourself in the shoes of an end-user to answer a question they didn’t know they had - you’re comfortable thinking from a number of different perspectives.
  • Significant proficiency in one or more general or statistical programming languages (i.e. Python and SQL) to systematically solve problems, and interest in learning new tools and techniques.
  • Experience going from insight to impact: using the results of your analysis to tell a story through visualization, presentation, and writing.
  • 3-4+ years of work experience working with data-driven decision-making.
  • Leadership competencies in the following: empathy, active listening, coaching/feedback, integrity, decisiveness, and problem solving and/or experience as a people manager, mentor, or thought partner to your teammates.
  • The ability to anticipate questions from your stakeholders while remaining objective in how you approach their unique challenges.
  • Experienced deriving value from imperfect data, but also knowing when to push the emergency stop button.
  • This position requires that you successfully attain and maintain a Federal Public Trust background investigation that our government clients require. This includes a requirement that the individual has US Citizenship or US residency for three of the past five years.

You may also have:

  • A proven track record using data-driven solutions to improve social outcomes - and bring a multidisciplinary approach to doing so.
  • Experience leading a project in which you (and possibly also your team) led a client from the point of analysis to change in behavior - whether internal or external to the organization.
  • Experience developing solutions that blend data-driven decision-making with thoughtful understanding of human-centered design/processes.
  • Authored narrative and data visualizations that were tailored to engage your client at the right level of detail.
  • Experience guiding significant aspects of larger projects that aim to achieve key objectives, using your strong understanding of the organization’s end goal and with minimal direct supervision.
  • Experience with large-scale data, ideally in the healthcare context. Our team supports data systems and applications used by tens of millions of Americans, and our solutions scale to meet that challenge.
  • An undergraduate degree in a quantitative field or equivalent technical training.

What recruitment looks like:

We expect to onboard this position in early October 2022. The successful candidate will complete up to three interviews (HR phone call, team/panel interview, and client meeting). During the interview process, you will be asked questions to describe your background and experience relevant to the position. This may include providing examples of projects you worked on, tools or applications you've used, and experience you have applied.  We often look for explanations of "how or why" so it's helpful to have details ready.

What We Offer:

BlueLabs offers a friendly work environment and competitive benefits package including:

  • Premier health insurance plan
  • 401K matching
  • Unlimited vacation leave
  • Paid sick, personal, and volunteer leave
  • 13 paid holidays

  • Employee Assistance Program (EAP)
