Position Summary:

To support AccuWeather’s continued focus on innovation and generating superior weather products, we are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Applied Meteorologist to join our Data Science team. As an Applied Meteorologist, you will play a crucial role in providing weather-related insights and solutions to support various products. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in meteorology, data analysis, and the ability to communicate weather information effectively. 

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Weather Analysis:
    • Collect, process, and analyze meteorological data from various sources, including satellites, radar, and ground-based weather stations.
    • Identify trends and patterns to improve the accuracy of weather predictions.
  2. Client Consultation:
    • Collaborate with clients to understand their unique needs and challenges related to weather impacts.
    • Offer expert advice and recommendations to optimize operations and mitigate weather-related risks.
  3. Customized Solutions:
    • Develop and implement specialized weather solutions for clients in diverse sectors, including advertising, retail, and energy.
    • Create tailored weather-related products and services to address specific client requirements.
  4. Research and Development:
    • Stay up to date on the latest developments in meteorological science and technology.
    • Contribute to ongoing research projects to enhance forecasting accuracy and provide innovative solutions.
  5. Communication:
    • Effectively communicate complex meteorological concepts and insights to clients with varying levels of expertise.
    • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate weather information into new product offerings.

Qualifications:

  • Educational Background: Bachelor's degree or higher in Meteorology, Atmospheric Science, or a related field.
  • Experience: Experience applying meteorological algorithms, models, or similar technologies to support unique, weather-impacted applications.
  • Technical Skills:
    • Strong proficiency in meteorological modeling, data analysis, and interpretation.
    • Experience with industry-specific applications of meteorological information (e.g., advertising, retail, energy).
    • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to convey technical information to non-experts.
  • Problem-Solving: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to translate business requirements into effective solutions.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent communication skills to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and convey complex meteorological concepts to non-experts.
  • Advantages:
    • Knowledge of programming languages (e.g., Python, R) for data analysis.
    • Knowledge of big data technologies (e.g., Spark).
