POSITION SUMMARY:

Data Science is a driver of significant competitive advantage for Kemper and is critical to the organization’s success. This position will report to VP Research and Pricing and lead a team of data scientists and resident data engineers to advance pricing and risk segmentation capabilities, improve partnership with multiple business areas in Kemper Auto, and accelerate and enhance the data-driven decision-making life cycle. The ideal candidate must have demonstrated leadership and management competencies in addition to a successful history as a practitioner and a student of advanced statistical modeling and AI/ML applications.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead a team of data scientists to develop models and analytics tools to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of business decision making process related to pricing.
  • Partner with product development teams and state management teams closely to identify, solve, present, and implement state-specific product features.
  • Drive standards and consistency in the usage of analytic tools in product management across different state management team.
  • Lead business post-monitoring practice to effectively assess the decision impacts to product performance at state level, identify future needs for improvements.
  • Directly engage in model peer reviews across data science community. Provide coaching to junior analysts on statistical modeling and AI/ML techniques.
  • Lead, attract, and develop a high performing analytic team that is both virtual and decentralized.
  • Perform other duties or special projects as assigned.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Graduate degree in Mathematics, Engineering, or other STEM fields or ACAS or FCAS
  • 7+ years of firsthand advanced pricing experience in Property Casualty, especially Auto. Product management experiences are preferred.
  • 5+ years of experience working with Statistical Modeling and ML/AI: GLM, GBM, Randon Forest, Deep Learning, NLP, Experimental Design, Clustering
  • 5+ years of proven experience leading and mentoring other analytic talents.
  • Successful history of pricing/modeling, advanced analytics, and ML operations
  • Solid understanding of actuarial principles and best practices
  • Excellent overall communication skills, particularly possessing the ability to translate technical results for wide audiences.
  • This position is a remote role and can work from a US based home. 

The base range for this position is $125,100 to $220,000. When determining candidate offers, we consider experience, skills, education, certifications, and geographic location among other factors. This job is eligible for an annual discretionary bonus, equity, and Kemper benefits (Medical, Dental, Vision, PTO, 401k, etc.)
