About the Role
We are seeking a Data Analyst for a fully remote position. Reporting directly to the CFO, this Data Analyst role will play a crucial role in our operations, leveraging your expertise in Tableau, SQL, and your experience in operations research and data analysis. This role is ideal for someone who excels in a startup environment and possesses the ability to extract insights from raw data.
In this role, you will utilize DBT (Data Build Tool), a powerful data transformation and modeling tool that automatically generates documentation. DBT streamlines data workflows and provides clear documentation around descriptions, model dependencies, model SQL, data sources, and tests. Your proficiency in DBT will be essential in ensuring data accuracy, reliability, and efficient data modeling processes within the organization.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain data dashboards using Tableau to provide actionable insights
- Influence operations by understanding research principles to optimize processes, resource allocation, and decision-making
- Utilize SQL to analyze large datasets, extract meaningful information, and support decision-making
- Apply operations research principles to optimize processes and resource allocation
- Iterate on data models to improve accuracy and relevance
- Employ a financial analyst mindset to analyze financial statements and provide valuable insights
- Work effectively in a remote, startup environment, collaborating with cross-functional teams
- Manage master data, including creation, updates, and deletion
- Administer user accounts and user roles
- Ensure the quality assurance of imported data, collaborating with quality assurance analysts when necessary
- Commission and decommission data sets as needed
- Process confidential data and information in accordance with established guidelines
- Assist in the development of reports and analyses
- Manage and design the reporting environment, including data sources, security, and metadata
- Support the data warehouse in identifying and revising reporting requirements
- Contribute to initiatives focused on data integrity and normalization
- Assess tests and implement new or upgraded software, participating in strategic decisions regarding new systems
- Generate reports from single or multiple systems
- Troubleshoot issues within the reporting database environment and reports
- Evaluate changes and updates to source production systems
- Provide training to end-users on new reports and dashboards
- Offer technical expertise in data storage structures, data mining, and data cleansing
Additional Qualifications
- A strong interest and experience in developing mathematical, computational, and statistical models to study the economics and optimization of digital platforms and marketplaces
- Collaboration experience with various online platforms
- Strong track record of managing, mentoring, and hiring data analysts and data scientists
- Experience conducting statistical analysis to drive business impact using Python or R, and SQL
- Experienced team leader with the ability to effectively and strategically support the data needs of an organization and work closely with key stakeholders, including Data Engineering
- Proven experience guiding data architecture, data pipelines, and ensuring data quality
- Skilled in experimentation, including design, communicating experimental setup, implementation, and interpreting results for stakeholders
- Understanding of marketplace dynamics and the unique data needs for these business models
- Familiarity with consumer-facing business metrics and best practices for measurement (e.g., Retention, CAC, LTV, etc.)
- Working knowledge of machine learning, predictive modeling, and causal inference methods
- Strong communication skills, specifically when driving projects in a leadership role
Minimum Qualifications
- Experience with owning DBT pipelines and visualization of those in tools such as Looker
- Expertise in DBT (Data Build Tool)
- Knowledge with Stripe, Hubspot, and Retool
- Proficient in Excel and Google Sheets
- Proficiency in Tableau and SQL
- Strong background in operations research and data analysis
- Ability to create and manage data dashboards
- Experience with financial statement analysis
- Comfortable working in a startup setting
- Strong analytical skills, including the ability to derive insights from raw data
Preferred Qualifications
- Familiarity with CRM tools and data visualization best practices
- Previous experience in the startup industry
- Knowledge of the higher education sector, particularly top-tier universities
Education Requirement
- Bachelor's degree or advanced degree.
