I'm Alex, the Data Team Lead at Musora! We’re an online music education brand on a mission to create more musicians and keep them playing longer.
We are looking for a Data Analyst to lead our data efforts in our Marketing or Product team, depending on your experience and interests. You will play a critical role in how your team uses data to make important business decisions.
Since the role "Data Analyst" means many things to many people, here are some of the things we expect you’ll do:
- Code: write code in SQL and R/Python to answer a business question that’s come in from one of our stakeholders. You may also be spending time coding for a large project, like a predictive model.
- Advise: be the data expert in the room. You will be the go-to person, and people will look to you to advise them on how to use data to make better decisions.
- Communicate: as an analyst, you’ll be working frequently with stakeholders. At every step of the process – scoping out a question, working through an analysis, and presenting findings – you’ll need to talk through data in a clear, easy-to-understand way.
- Improve data quality: identify gaps in our data, hunt down errors, and think through changes to our data pipeline to ensure clean, high-quality data.
- Discover: sometimes it takes the unique perspective of a data expert, like you, to see a solution that no one else does. As someone who sees into the data of all parts of the business, you’ll be looking for ways to leverage data to make great decisions.
Key Duties & Responsiblities
- Answer tricky business questions with data – something as simple as breaking data into groups and taking averages or as complex as developing a statistical model that predicts a specific outcome
- Take ownership of data products, like reports, dashboards, infrastructure, and analyses
- Work with stakeholders to define what pressing questions they have, and how they can be answered with data
- Act as a teacher/mentor to non-technical people – help them improve how they work with, interpret, and explore data
- Improve our processes to ensure high-quality data, which could include investigation of inconsistencies among data sources, writing and implementing data quality tests, and designing data infrastructure to minimize the risk of low-quality data leaking through
- Establish and manage new data initiatives, such as an experimentation framework (A/B testing), event tracking, and attribution (these are just examples)
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
- Enthusiasm for data — you’ll be working with it a lot!
- Experience working with data, especially using data to answer business questions
- Ability to present complex information in an easy-to-understand way
- Fluency in SQL: able to turn plain-language questions into clear, repeatable SQL code
- Familiarity with any of the technologies in our tech stack is not necessary, but a plus: Snowflake, dbt, R, Python, and Tableau
- Ability to exhibit the Company's Core Values: Empathy, Passion, and Grit
- Proficiency in the English language (written and verbal)
