Position Introduction
StraighterLine is seeking a data analyst to help us leverage our various streams of data to solve complex problems. The data analyst should love telling stories with, manipulating, and understanding data. They should enjoy using creative approaches to solve challenging, ambiguous problems. Crucially, the data analyst will enable StraighterLine to better understand its students, and in turn, help students be successful. 
The data analyst will primarily partner with our Product Management and Product Design teams to review, analyze, and evaluate internal and external stakeholder needs to create and communicate data systems solutions. They will also document data system requirements, define the scope and objectives of projects, and create system specifications that drive business objectives.

Responsibilities and Duties

    • Engage stakeholders to understand business problems and customize analytic/predictive model solutions to business needs
    • Solve problems using advanced statistical techniques including, but not limited to regression/logic regression, bootstrap, factor analysis, decision tree, clustering & binning, and basket analysis
    • Conduct exploratory data profiling techniques, common summary descriptive statistics, etc.
    • Support the design and execution of market and product experiments to test hypotheses validate assumptions, and generate actionable insights
    • Work cross-functionally with Technology, Product Management, Product Design, Engineering, Marketing, Sales, and Finance teams to deliver solutions
    • Plan, lead, and evaluate projects with moderate complexity

Essential Qualification and Skills

    • To be successful in this position the analyst must be able to work cross-functionally and effectively communicate insights to broad range of stakeholders
    • Bachelor's or Master's in Mathematics, Science, Statistics or related Technical field; and/or at least 5 years of related experience 
    • Background in experimental design, statistical analysis, and evaluation 
    • Familiar with SQL, Python, or R, or other data analysis programming language
    • Strong skills in Excel, PowerPoint, Google Suite, and statistical/data processing software packages and programming languages (e.g. SAS, R, SQL, SPSS, etc.)
    • Demonstrates the ability to leverage data analysis techniques to generate insights and inform business decisions

Preferred Qualifications and Skills

    • Familiar with data warehouse products (eg. Redshift)
    • Experience working in the fundamentals of big data architecture (streaming events, data lakes, analytics engines) and relational database models
    • Experience with business intelligence and data visualization tools (we currently use QuickSight)
