Data Engineers are responsible for working with the systems and infrastructure that enable data storage, processing, and analysis. They work closely with data scientists and analysts to ensure that data is properly collected, organized, enriched, refined, and available for analysis. They are the critical connectors between the teams that maintain existing legacy systems, and the data analysts and data scientists that will use aggregated data for analysis, reporting, and predictive analytics.

As a people leader within engineering, you will build, lead, and develop other members from your practice and ensure they adopt and apply the best practices, principles, and values that are important to the health and quality of the engineering practice and to our customers. 

 Requirements

What You'll Do

  • Demonstrating significant technical competence and ownership to broad audiences while driving progress on company strategic objectives at multiple levels.
  • Maintaining a wide and productive sphere of influence within and outside the company.
  • Generating and articulating technical strategy to diverse audiences, both technical and non-technical. 
  • Proactively creating and exploring new areas of opportunity for the company. 
  • Shaping future work streams from clients on their program and related programs, with a focus on overall client success. 
  • Representing the company publicly such as writing blog posts, generating marketing materials, presenting at conferences, and taking part in panel discussions. 
  • Mentoring, guiding, and coaching other engineers at the company, with a focus on technical excellence and leadership.
  • Defining and delivering minimal viable products independently or with new teams given ambiguous requirements.
  • Maintaining strong ties and familiarity with at least one major technical ecosystem (through either maintenance or participation in major communities and projects).

What You'll Bring

  • In-depth understanding of computer science fundamentals (algorithms, data structures, operating systems, networks, databases)
  • Proficiency in working with relational databases
  • Experience working with legacy systems with complex data structures
  • Knowledge of (and preferably some experience with) NoSQL databases
  • Understanding of database concepts, data modeling, and query optimization
  • Proficiency in at least one (and preferably more than one) of the following: Python, R, Java, or Scala
  • Experience with scripting languages like Bash, Powershell, etc. 
  • Thorough understanding of SQL
  • Experience with building and managing data pipelines at scale
  • Experience developing data pipelines to migrate data from legacy premise-based systems to modern, cloud-based platforms
  • Familiarity with real-time data streaming systems
  • Understanding of event-driven architectures is preferred, but not required.
  • Thorough understanding of data integration between different systems.
  • Hands-on experience developing and managing Extract, Transform, Load (ETL) processes
  • Knowledge of tools and technologies like Apache Airflow, Apache Nifi, or Talend for data ingestion, transformation, and workflow management is preferred but not required.
  • Understanding of data warehousing concepts and technologies
  • Knowledge of designing and building data warehouse architectures that support analytics and reporting.
  • Experience with data tools like Apache Airflow, Apache NiFi, Amazon Redshift, Google BigQuery, Google Snowflake, Tableau, Power BI, etc.
  • Familiarity with big data technologies and frameworks such as Hadoop, Apache Spark, Apache Kafka, Apache HBase, or similar 
  • Understanding of how to process and refine large volumes of data efficiently
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms like Amazon Web Services (AWS), Microsoft Azure, or Google Cloud Platform (GCP)
  • Proficiency in deploying and managing data engineering solutions on cloud infrastructure
  • Knowledge of data governance principles and best practices for ensuring data quality, privacy, and security
  • Understanding data access controls, encryption, and compliance regulations (such as FedRAMP, GDPR, or HIPAA) 
  • Proficiency in using version control systems like Git
  • Complex problem-solving and analytical thinking

Actual compensation is influenced by a wide range of factors including but not limited to skill set, level of experience, and responsibility. The range of starting pay for this role is $113,900 - $149,040 and information on benefits offered is here.
