he Federal Health Team is looking for a Senior Data Architect to join the DataConnect program.  This is a Remote position. 

Ad Hoc is a digital services company that helps the federal government better serve people. Our teams use modern, agile methods to meet the needs of our users while closing the gap between consumer expectations and government.   

The Federal Health business unit covers our work with the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, including HealthCare.gov, Medicare.gov, and the Blue Button API. Our team supports Federal Heath in building and improving online public experiences and APIs that are reliable, accessible, and user-centered. We help millions of people enroll in healthcare and access Medicare and Medicaid benefits, and we help Federal Health improve the quality of Medicare and Medicaid services for beneficiaries and clinicians.

DataConnect is a program focused on helping CMS build a data platform that enables federal and state policymakers and researchers to gain insights on nationwide Medicaid and CHIP population data. It is also focused on helping CMS evangelize a culture of data use across the Medicaid program. We aim to see DataConnect become the trusted primary tool CMS uses for all Medicaid and CHIP data and for making program and policy decisions. We also work to help all Center for Medicaid and CHIP Services (CMCS) divisions develop self-service proficiency and expertise in their data domains. DataConnect will support all routine data processing, monitoring, and reporting.

About this position:
  • This position is fully remote
  • Minimum 8 years of related experience required
  • This position will require prior experience with state or Federal Medicaid and/or CHIP data
  • Experience with Cloud-based lakehouse 
  • Our Federal contracts require that you be a U.S. Citizen to be eligible for employment.
  • All work must be conducted within the U.S.
  • Helpful experience to have:
    • Experience with DataBricks, AWS QuickSight, Alation, Scala, PySpark or similar

Primary Responsibilities: 

In this role, you will serve as an experienced individual contributor within a team, with the expectation that you will further develop your leadership, guidance and mentoring skills. With minimal oversight from leadership, you will be responsible for supporting the goal of meeting scope, schedule and delivery requirements. A Senior Data Architect impacts the long-term goals of the program, while contributing to the development of the program’s data architecture strategy. You may serve as the discipline's primary lead when working with stakeholders and utilize strong influential skills to drive improvements in data architecture processes and practices. Primary expectations of a Senior Data Architect include: 

  • Creates data strategy and oversees data collection, organization, and storage for program(s)
  • Influences data owners, engineers, and analysts to recommend solutions that support a strategic and holistic approach to data integration, management, and reporting
  • Presents to a vast audience, inclusive of product owners, engineers, designers, and researchers; ability to effectively adapt communication to inform stakeholders 
  • Identifies business components and translates requirements into functional BI portals and dashboards
  • Responsible for data governance, eliminating gaps and improving data maturity
  • Aligns data architecture and standardizes access patterns to make data available to BI tools, apps, and websites
  • Oversees and aligns data organization, dictionary standardization, and glossary development with models
  • Participates in technical interviews with new candidates, and evaluates homework assignments
  • Serves as a mentor to junior analysts and engineers within the program
  • May lead small, less critical or temporary structures and projects

Basic Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree and 8+ years of experience 
  • 6+ years of experience in an analytics role
  • Expertise with data engineering tools, analytics, and statistics; strong understanding of both relational and non-relational databases

Ad Hoc job descriptions feature the starting range we reasonably expect to pay to candidates who would join our team with little to no need for training on the responsibilities we've outlined above. Actual compensation is influenced by a wide range of factors including but not limited to skill set, level of experience, and responsibility . The range of starting pay for this role is $135,000-$155,000 and information on benefits offered is here.
