Data Engineer

We are currently looking for a Data Engineer for a 100% remote position on a large federal government project supporting the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). This role is part of the Enterprise Measurement and Configuration Services (EMACS) program within the Veterans Experience Office (VEO). The selected candidate will work in a collaborative, agile team environment focused on delivering advanced analytics, AI, and data engineering solutions that improve the Veteran experience.

The candidate must reside within the continental US.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop data engineering pipelines to support ingestion, cleansing, integration, and conditioning of data for product development.
  • Configure data analytics processes to load data from VA systems into the Customer Experience Insights (CXI) data warehouse.
  • Collaborate with data scientists, analysts, and stewards to capture technical requirements and develop specifications.
  • Deliver ad-hoc data reports and analysis based on client reporting needs.
  • Create automated scripts for data extraction, transformation, and processing of large datasets into actionable insights.
  • Support development of data analytics products using agile and hybrid methodologies.
  • Contribute to team objectives and take on additional responsibilities as needed.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • 2–5 years of experience in data engineering, analytics, or IT environments.
  • Hands-on experience with Python/Spark programming, SQL, and developing ETL pipelines.
  • Experience with Databricks and Azure cloud services (e.g., Synapse, ADF, DevOps).
  • Knowledge of dimensional modeling (fact/dimension tables) and data integration best practices.
  • Familiarity with GitHub, Agile development frameworks, and tools such as Jira.
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Visio).

Additional Qualifications:

  • Experience with Power BI or similar analytics tools.
  • Background in API or systems integration.
  • Prior consulting or Federal Government experience (VA systems preferred).
  • Healthcare IT experience is a plus.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Public Trust clearance.
