About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Data Engineer with expertise in creating and maintaining data models that support a scalable, agile, and versatile approach to business analytics. This person is an expert in collaborating with business stakeholders to design, implement, and deploy analytic solutions.

 

As a Data Engineer, you will support the need for insights from Routable’s other internal teams and Routable’s goal of being truly data driven. You will own the process for preparing and maintaining our data warehouse for data analyses. In addition, you will help the Routable data team build and manage the data transformation, ETL, reverse ETL processes, as well as maintaining our Looker metadata and logical models. You will interface often with internal teams and be a key domain expert on how our business measures operational and product teams.

  • You are able to effectively collaborate with subject matter experts to understand our source data, systems and data requirements and translate these into physical and logical models
  • You are an optimizer who loves building efficient data pipelines, models, and processes to improve data accessibility and warehouse performance. Experience with dimensional data modeling is a must
  • You are able to continuously improve and evolve our data models to address new and changing business requirements, address performance, and improve end user experience

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with other internal teams to understand and address needs for data analysis
  • Lead the data team’s in-warehouse transformation, ETL and reverse ETL processes to create scalable and agile data assets for analysis
  • Manage and report on the data quality and performance of our data warehouse
  • Develop new ideas or solutions to push forward the company data-driven culture
  • Maintain a keen grasp of how our data is produced
  • Write and execute data validation test scripts and resolve data discrepancies and ensure that we are providing clean data to our stakeholders
  • Analyze and understand potential data quality issues from various source systems, understand impact on data models and root causes, and work the leadership to improve data governance processes 
  • Champion data security and always maintain a high level of care for our customers’ private information


Qualifications

Need to have

  • 2+ years experience in a data engineer role supporting analytics teams and cross-functional stakeholders
  • 2+ years of SQL experience, writing queries and implementing ETL processes to produce data for analysis
  • 2+ years experience working with business intelligence tools such as Tableau, Looker or PowerBI
  • Must have experience with DBT
  • Design and implement ETL scripts create and maintain data warehouse data models
  • An analytical mind and strong quantitative skills
  • Ability to thrive in an autonomous environment, and manage projects through to delivery
  • Strong understanding of relational databases and other key data structures and creating analytic data models. Understanding of dimensional / star schema data models is a must
  • Sound business intuition and an ability to craft clear business questions
  • High oral and written communication proficiency

 

Nice to have

  • Experience with financial products or services
  • Experience with Looker 
  • Experience with Python (or other scripting language)
  • Experience with Hightouch (or other reverse ETL tool)
  • Experience with data warehousing solutions (ex: Redshift, Snowflake, etc.)

Location

You must be currently authorized to work in the United States or Canada on a full-time basis.

To help foster amazing relationships with our coworkers, we meet up twice a year as a whole team in some pretty awesome cities! In the past we’ve met up in San Diego, Seattle, and Austin. We’d rather invest money into memorable team events rather than expensive offices. During our meet-up team time, we love to spend time learning a new skill together, and solving problems. Most recently this has taken on the form of a bread-making class and defeating an Escape Room. Yeah.. We love to compete together as a team.
