‍Your opportunity

We are scaling up the team at Tinybird and are looking to hire a Data Engineer to be part of an existing team of high performers, our Data Engineers work as a single team world global. As part of our team, you’ll be responsible for an assigned territory with massive potential.

This role focuses on understanding and solving complex customer problems dealing with real-time data at scale, developing repeatable solutions, and contributing with our feedback and expertise to our product at a strategic level. You will work across various customer use cases and address specific enterprise challenges.

While your focus might be on helping customers and prospects succeed, if the things you learn while helping customers don’t end up driving our roadmap, then we are doing something wrong. If you are motivated by the impact you can have as an early team member then please read on!

What are we looking for?

If you are someone able to understand our customers, infer what they actually need in terms of business and technical requirements, turn these complex problems into understandable solutions using Tinybird, and explain that solution in a way everybody would be able to understand then … you are who we are looking for!

It is challenging because we are looking for a person with different skills. We don’t know the exact name for this role so we prefer to explain what we are looking for.

Your responsibilities

  • Work with existing customers to understand challenges and optimize their use cases on our platform. You will help and teach them to work in real-time.
  • Develop quick prototypes/demos to illustrate how certain things work or what is the best way to go about something. Writing efficient SQL is important here, our platform is heavily based on SQL.
  • Work closely with our customers to understand their business and technical goals to help them go to production fast.
  • Writing technical guides and blogpost.

What you bring to the team

  • Experience writing and understanding SQL, bonus points for experience in the Clickhouse dialect.
  • Demonstrated expertise in the real-time data, data infrastructure and/or analytics space, particularly with technologies such as Kafka, GCS, S3, Snowflake or BigQuery.
  • Strong aptitude to build custom, end-to-end solutions for customers to illustrate how things work and the best way to address real-time problems.
  • Experience helping address customer needs by building technical guides and blog posts that are targeted at data engineers and developers.
  • Eagerness to wear different hats and provide value across functions.
  • Excellent organizational, verbal, and written communication skills; especially the ability to communicate to data engineers and developers and translate between technical and business stakeholders.
  • We conduct business in English, but spoken Spanish is also helpful.

Some bits about the way we work

  • We are a remote-first company. All our previous companies were remote-friendly companies as well. We have office hubs in New York and Madrid.
  • Your work will impact everything we do, so we strive to maintain full transparency across the business. You will always know what is going on at the company and will be expected to share openly with your peers.
  • Here you can download and review our company principles, let us know what you think!

A bit more about the hiring process

We value your time so we try to simplify the process as much as possible. Every candidate will get an answer and we get in touch to let you know where you are in the process.

  • First contact meeting to introduce ourselves and get to know you.
  • You will have to solve a simple async test. There is no time limit (although we encourage you to not spend more than 2 hours). The aim is not to solve the problem but to see how you approach a problem and how you think about it - the reasoning is more important than the solution. The review of this is structured as a role-play where we are the customers and you the Tinybird data engineer.
  • If you succeed on the previous test, you will meet with 2 Tinybird data engineers. It will be a more technical interview that you could also use to meet your future colleagues and learn more about the role.
  • Before moving forward, if you are the selected one, you will meet with one or two of the founders.
  • And finally, we make you an offer.
  • That's it!

Compensation

  • Competitive Package. Based on your experience and market, you will receive a competitive salary and target bonus, up to 200K, as well as stock options.
  • Unlimited PTO. We will not count the days you take off, but we insist you take at least 22 days off per year. Plus, your birthday off and public holidays… but, who’s counting?
  • Work remotely. You have the freedom to work from wherever suits you best, so long as you can meet the obligations of your role. This time, we are looking for people based in Us East Coast, ideally in NYC area.
  • Equipment of your choice. You get to choose the equipment you need to do your best work ($2,600 budget).
  • Healthcare benefits (US employees). Medical, Dental, and Vision plus a 401K plan.
