THE ROLE

We are in the process of revolutionizing a 276-year-old business. We’re looking for a talented Data Engineering Manager who can help reshape the future of Sotheby’s data platform through exceptional leadership, engineering practices, processes, and design. 

The ideal candidate will help us lead and grow our Data Engineering team, provide technical vision, lead product development and improve efficiency. Our team is distributed across multiple countries, and we require people that are strong communicators and can work in a diverse, multicultural remote environment.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Be a key leader of the Data and Analytics team, working to propel the business towards being more data-driven.
  • Collaborate with product owners, analysts, data scientists, researchers, and engineers to ingest, transform and store data continuously
  • Help deliver on the data-driven product vision for reshaping a 300-year-old industry through building compelling modern marketplace and auction experiences.
  • Building, optimizing, and maintaining internal and consumer-facing data pipelines that enable Sotheby's to process large datasets for Product, data scientists, and the business
  • Oversee the hiring, training, and development of team members
  • Transform existing data into strategic opportunities through analysis
  • Ensure data solutions are robust, scalable, and efficient to meet the needs of the business

IDEAL EXPERIENCE & COMPETENCIES

  • Five years or more experience in data engineering solutions such as data platforms, ingestion, data management, or publication/analytics.
  • Three (3) years or more in people leadership in data engineering roles
  • Depth of knowledge of Data Engineering practices, including Cloud data platforms, ingestion, publication / semantic layer, and orchestration
  • Depth of knowledge of data management practices such as data governance, data catalog, data modeling, and/or MDM
  • Working knowledge of Agile, CI/CD, and DevOps practices and tooling
  • Proficient understanding of SQL language and report writing
  • Experience with Cloud data and ingestion technologies from providers such as Microsoft Azure, AWS, GCP, and Snowflake.
  • Experience in Analytics, Data Science tools such as Sagemaker, R, Python, and/or SAS
  • Proven track record of being results oriented with demonstrated ability to achieve goals

The proposed base salary for this position ranges from $200,000-$250,000. In addition to base salary successful candidates are eligible to receive a discretionary bonus, as well as a competitive benefits package. Salary offers are based on a wide range of factors including relevant skills, training, experience, education, and, where applicable, licensure or certifications obtained. Market and organizational factors are also considered.
