Job Summary: 

 We are seeking an experienced and motivated Data Science Lead to join Octave. As the Data Science Lead, you will play a crucial role in driving our data-driven decision-making process and shaping our data science team from the ground up. We are looking for someone with a strong practical background in data science who also has experience developing and implementing data science strategies in a fast-paced startup environment. Being the first member of this function at the organization, the individual should also have a desire and willingness to be hands on.



Duties/Responsibilities: 

  • Drive data-driven decision-making: Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including product managers, analysts, engineers, and business stakeholders, to identify key business problems and develop data science solutions that drive growth and innovation.
  • Develop and implement data science strategies: Define the data science roadmap and vision, aligning it with the company’s overall goals and objectives. Drive the development and implementation of best practices, methodologies, and tools to enhance the team’s efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Hands-on data science work: You will also be expected to contribute directly to data science projects. This may involve data exploration, model development, statistical analysis, and predictive modeling to derive actionable insights and solutions.

 

Required Skills:

  • Practical data science expertise: Strong background in data science with hands-on experience in data exploration, statistical analysis, predictive modeling, and machine learning. Proficiency in Python, along with experience using relevant libraries and frameworks.
  • Startup experience: Prior experience working in a startup or similar fast-paced environment is crucial. Demonstrated ability to thrive in an agile and rapidly changing work environment, adapt to new challenges, and help scale a data science team as the company grows.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management: Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to translate complex data science concepts into actionable insights for non-technical stakeholders. Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams and presenting findings and recommendations to senior leadership.
  • Analytical and problem-solving mindset: Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to think critically and creatively to solve complex business problems using data science techniques. Experience with experimental design, A/B testing, and data-driven decision-making is highly desirable.

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer. 
  • Must be able to frequently communicate with others through virtual meeting applications such as Zoom and Google Meet. 
  • Must be able to observe and communicate  information on company provided laptop. 
  • The ability to lift 15 pounds regularly.

Starting pay for qualified applicants will depend on a combination of job-related factors, which may include education, training, experience, location, business needs, or market demands. The expected salary range for this role is set forth below and this range may be modified in the future. 

 

The salary range for this role is $200,000-$240,000 annually 

 

Additionally, this position is eligible for the following benefits: company sponsored life insurance, disability and AD&D plans.  Voluntary benefits such as 401k retirement, medical, dental, vision, FSA, HSA, dependent care and commuter/parking options are also available.  Octave offers generous Paid Time Off as well as paid parental leave benefits.
