About the Job

The Data Scientist/ Product Analyst at Opal is responsible for analyzing customer behaviors across the customer journey and helping make the customer experience and business outcomes better. This position will create and own multiple Product Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s) while nurturing a deep understanding of product health and the customer experience. The Senior Product Analyst will aid in strategic decisions by owning the data storytelling process.

Key collaboration points include working with our Product Management, Engineering, Marketing, Sales, Finance, and Leadership teams.

Responsibilities

  • Perform strategic and one-off data analysis primarily in support of Product Management.
  • Support the organization in using data to launch and iterate on PLG motions.
  • Build visualizations, dashboards, and define key metrics that enable the success of our product.
  • Find opportunities to bolster product usage, user retention, and overall engagement via insights in our data.
  • Be the DRI for Product KPIs.
  • Help craft and evaluate A/B tests to improve user experience and engagement.
  • Uncover actionable insights and trends in complex, sprawling datasets and articulate them to roles across the organization.
  • Develop user archetypes and build dashboards to demonstrate their usage patterns.
  • Build code that fits the standards of our engineering best practices.
  • Work in an iteration fashion to rapidly deliver value on a consistent basis.
  • Consistently document your work and actions so the work is repeatable and can be run by others.

Skills, Experience, Knowledge:

  • 5+ years of related data-engineering and/or business intelligence (BI) engineering and analytics experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse communities and cultures.
  • Experience in creating ETL pipelines, preferably with Apache Airflow.
  • Significant experience in modeling information for both relational, dimensional and log-based databases.
  • Experience with PLG motions and tactics.
  • History working with standard SaaS metrics and using data to find insights to improve them.
  • Deep understanding of SQL, dimensional/relational databases and data access patterns.
  • Working familiarity with BI/reporting tools, such as Metabase.
  • Working familiarity with modern web application analytics toolchain, such as Segment.io, Mixpanel, Snowflake, Fivetran, Pendo, etc.
  • Experience using dynamic languages like Python and Ruby.
  • Understanding of Docker and CI/CD deployment pipelines.
  • Ability to work with structured, semi-structured, and unstructured data sources.
  • Detail-oriented and able to enforce consistency in naming conventions, standards and nomenclature.
  • A passion for building great software products and deeply understanding user behavior.
  • Effective written and oral communication skills when interacting with both technical and non-technical staff.
  • Comfort working in a highly agile, intensely iterative software development process
  • Experience owning a project from concept to production, including proposal, discussion, and execution
  • Self-motivated and self-managing, with strong organizational skills
  • Skilled at time and project management with the ability to move between priorities and manage deadlines across multiple focuses and teams.
  • Experience working with employees at all levels, from interns to Executives.
  • Experience working in a fast-paced, high-growth, start-up environment is a plus.

Education:

  • Undergraduate degree or equivalent related work experience required; advanced degree in a related field a plus.

Pay of $90,000 - 120,000 DOE
