About Triptease

Our mission is simple: help more people book hotels direct.

Triptease is uniquely positioned to help hotels during their greatest time of need. The unique industry data set we’ve been building, combined with a new set of digital marketing tools has positioned us to accelerate our impact in 2020 and beyond.

With offices in London, NYC, Barcelona and Singapore, Triptease drives over $1bn in revenue for hoteliers around the globe. As we gear up for our next stage of growth, now is an ideal time to join this fast-growth technology business.

We recently ranked 27th in The Sunday Times Sage Tech Track 100 league table alongside industry-leading companies including Revolut, Gousto, Babylon Health and Transferwise.

Triptease is proud to be an equal opportunity employer and we welcome applications from diverse and non-traditional backgrounds. Applicants will not be discriminated against on the basis of any protected characteristic(s) in terms of the Equality Act (2010).

Where we are

Our Product-Engineering team is mostly based in London, but we work with and are happy to consider remote candidates (London +/- 1h GMT). The team is remote-first, which means we conduct all team meetings on video calls if any of the team are remote. We all come to the office every Monday. Some team members choose to go to the office every day.

Who we are

We are a team of five, responsible for building Triptease's Retargeting advertising product. We launched Retargeting in October last year and it has rapidly grown to become a core part of our platform. Our goal is simple, to drive as many website bookings as possible by advertising to guests that have left the hotel website without making a purchase.

Currently we are focused on Retargeting, but in 2021 we will be expanding into Prospecting as well as well as Social advertising. You will play a core part in driving this expansion.

Data science and engineering automation sit at the core of what we do. We are taking an algorithmic approach to our advertising efforts. Much of what you will be doing is working out how to deliver the right ad to the right person at the right time.

The team currently consists of a product manager and four engineers. We embrace honest and open discussion and we genuinely want to hear from each other as it has proven to lead to the best results for our team. We truly value collaboration and are invested in maintaining a team that encourages everyone to contribute.

Most days start with us getting together to review the work we have done and the work we need to do. We organise ourselves into pairs or work individually to suit the task and preference of our team members.

We regularly get together to review the past week or so to see if we can make any changes to our approach that would help us improve and be more effective as a team.

At the end of each week, we join the rest of the company to showcase what we’ve accomplished with our colleagues.

What we can offer

It's all too common for a data scientist to hear, "our company has lots of data" but when it comes to your first day, you find out its a couple of hundred rows on excel. We can assure you this is not the case at Triptease, we have invested significant time and effort over the years in our data collection. We currently track and curate 5 million daily bid events and a further 30 million daily user-behaviour interactions.

Within our product-engineering team, we consider it common practice for our data scientists to pair with engineers, designers and analysts. This not only gives us a varied perspective on problem-solving but also upskills all parties involved. We've found this has made our data scientists more well rounded- improving skills in not only deploying and productionising pipelines but also gaining a greater understanding of product thinking.

Our ad-tech, data science stack includes, but not limited to: Python, SQL, Pandas, Scikit-learn, Docker, Kubernetes and Beeswax.

What we are looking for

The advertising data landscape changes daily, it's up to you as the data scientist to determine the quality and price willing to pay for ad inventory. In order to do this, your day-to-day tasks will revolve around:

  • Building machine learning pipelines to determine the top-performing bidding strategies for our clients
  • Scaling models across a variety of client performance clusters
  • Applying proprietary user behaviour data to bidding models
  • Leading our experimentation platform through A/B testing and reinforcement learning

Experience of programmatic advertising would be strong plus, but not necessary for an application.

So if you value being collaborative, open-minded, eager to learn and looking to grow over time then look no further!

Benefits

The process

We recognise that interviewing for a new job can be a stressful and difficult experience for many people. We will be doing our best to make the process with us as comfortable as possible. We believe, and have seen from our own experience, that people can only show their best side when they are at ease. We want to do everything we can to have the best outcome for everyone. We are not interested in brain teasers, whiteboard based algorithmic design sessions and are not trying to trip you up.

Submit an application and please tell us a bit about your career and why you would like to join us.

If the application is successful, the first step will be an informal 20-30 minute chat with one of our team to learn a bit more about you and for you to ask any clarifying questions you might have.

If we both agree this could be a good match we would then have a follow-up discussion on a more technical level, this will be more of a deep dive into the typical data science and statistics problem space and get a chance to meet squad mates.

The final round will involve an invitation to our assessment day with the team. Due to Covid-19 this will likely be remote and we will likely use a combination of zoom and the CoderPad interview tool (https://coderpad.io/getting-started-candidates) (if you have a preference for an alternative we’d love to hear about it). The assessment day will have two components:

  1. A pair programming session where you will work on a daily task with a member of the team. This is designed to evaluate your familiarity with manipulating and analysing data.
  2. The Product Angle, a session with two members specialising in product management and design. Here we aim to learn about your approach to product development and getting things done.

If it'd be more convenient we are open to splitting it over several days. The intention is for both parties to get as much information as they can about how they would work together and you are encouraged to ask any questions you have as they come up.

We will review the day and let you know our decision within a week and provide detailed feedback on how the day went.

We will respond to all applications, please feel free to contact us if you haven’t heard from us.
