Purpose: The Data Scientist II will be responsible for designing and developing AI/ML models that provide results to meet the customers needs. The role must possess technical knowledge but also a comprehensive understanding of the business landscape in order to leverage the most appropriate data analytic technologies. The role is a trusted advisor to leadership and will provide mentorship and guidance to Data Analysts and Data Scientist I positions.
 
This includes refining the models, providing quality control efforts to ensure accurate and consistent data is being used, as well as issue resolution. The Data Scientist I will work in coordination with team members, providing guidance and mentorship to Data Analysts, and gleaning knowledge and expertise from Data Scientist II and Team Leads. 

Responsibilities:

    • Lead data science projects from inception to deployment, working closely with business stakeholders.
    • Work with internal and external stakeholders to translate business concepts into data deliverables.
    • Develop predictive models, recommendation systems, and other advanced data-driven solutions.
    • Stay abreast of industry trends, recommending and implementing emerging data science technologies to address business needs.
    • Propose and test AI/ML capabilities to solve use cases prioritized by stakeholders.
    • Communicate results to both technical and non-technical stakeholders frequently, regular engagement directly with the customer.
    • Develop and take lead on use cases.
    • Transform business issues into clearly defined analytics problems through questions, research and requirements analysis.
    • Mentor both Data Analyst and Data Scientist I on technical projects and ensure quality production of labeled and modeled data for specific platforms.
    • Performs other tasks as assigned.  

Education, Experience and KSAs:

    • Graduate degree in a quantitative field (Computer Science, Mathematics, Applied Science, Economics, Engineering etc.) with a minimum of 7 years of relevant experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
    • Internal candidates – additional expectation of mastery of Data Scientist II expectations.
    • Possess a working level knowledge of an analytic platform and/or coding language where the application of basic statistical principles is paramount. Analytic platforms include Microsoft Excel/Power BI, Tableau, or JMP but are not limited to those.
    • Proficient in programming language (Python and/or R, preferred) for statistical analysis, common data science libraries, independent research of technical topics, and analytical skills as it relates to regression and clustering algorithms.
    • Proven track record of delivering data-driven solutions to complex business problems.
    • Strong leadership skills and experience in guiding and mentoring junior team members.
    • Excellent communication and presentation abilities for technical and non-technical audiences
    • Understand and demonstrate foundational natural language processing (NLP) skillset.
    • Practical experience in machine learning, statistical analysis, and data modeling.
    • Hands-on experience with data manipulation and cleaning.
    • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced ever-changing environment while successfully managing the day-to-day responsibilities of the role and department. 
    • Ability to plan, execute and deliver on projects in a timely manner, with the added ability to multi-task on varying projects and initiatives.
    • Willing to take initiative and work independently when needed as well as successfully and effectively lead a team to meet department and corporate objectives.
    • Demonstrated capacity to work with a variety of workstyles and personalities with a focus on high professional standards, strong follow-up, and successful project execution.
    • Proficient computer skills, including experience with MS Office software suite.

    • Must be able to satisfactorily pass a pre-employment background investigation.
    • May be required to pass a client-initiated background check prior to gaining access to client computer workstations, work locations, and other confidential information.
