At Turquoise Health, we're making healthcare pricing simpler, more transparent, and lower cost for everyone. Have you or a family member ever gotten an MRI, a lab, or even a straightforward surgery without knowing the cost in advance? That's bonkers, right? We're working to fix that.

We’ve already launched our consumer-facing website that allows anyone to search and compare hospital insurance rates; something once impossible. Now, we're rolling out a suite of new products for providers, payers, employers, and patients to clean up the healthcare transaction. We want to change how the industry works from the inside out and we need a whip-smart, forward-thinking Head of Product to help make it happen.

The Role

As a Data and Search Engineer you will be the lead developer implementing search indexes and search experiences for our core pricing analytics warehouse. Turquoise Health is built upon the pricing data we aggregate, making this role critical to our success. If you are experienced in building search systems using ElasticSearch and you possess a desire to impact healthcare’s broken payment infrastructure, we’d love to hear from you.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement ElasticSearch Search Indexes over large datasets to power our production systems.
• Optimize the performance of ElasticSearch indexes and large scale data loads.
• Have input on the design of our data pipelines and data warehousing infrastructure.
• Implement backend data and search features using Python.
• Help to support our data automation engineers working in Apache Airflow
• Help guide the data product roadmap with leadership.
• Draft internal and external technical documentation.
• Fluidly meet the sporadic daily tasks of a small, growing startup.

• Experience building large search indexes in ElasticSearch
• Experience working with large data sets in Redshift or Snowflake
• Significant programming experience (Python preferred, but other languages are fine if you are willing to learn)
• Experience implementing Search backends and shipping Search features on web apps
• Minimum BS Computer Science or similar level of experience

• Extensive experience with building search interfaces using tools like ElasticSearch or similar

Job Location

Turquoise Health is a fully remote company based in the US. Our founding team is located in California (San Diego) and London. We work with team members and contractors in the US and around the world, but we operate on US business hours and work with clients entirely based in the US.

For this role, we are seeking US-based candidates.
