Company Description

The Reporters Committee for Freedom of the Press was founded by leading journalists and media lawyers in 1970 when the nation’s news media faced an unprecedented wave of government subpoenas forcing reporters to name confidential sources. Fifty years later, we are the only national organization focused on providing pro bono legal services to reporters and news outlets. Our mission is to protect the right to gather and distribute the news; to keep government accountable by ensuring access to public records, meetings, and courtrooms; and to preserve the principles of free speech and unfettered press, as guaranteed by the First Amendment.

Job Description

The Reporters Committee for Freedom of the Press seeks a Data Specialist to support the data needs of a growing and vibrant nonprofit organization. The new position will be a combination of data development, maintenance, reporting, and analysis, working with both fundraising and program teams.

In the past few years, the Reporters Committee has significantly invested in and expanded its infrastructure and data keeping, primarily through Salesforce (Nonprofit Success Pack). As the organization and its data needs continue to evolve, the new Data Specialist will help us more efficiently utilize these tools and analyze our data so that we can better measure our impact and successes. The Data Specialist will be primarily responsible for data entry, data hygiene, reporting, and analysis, all of which will help facilitate the day-to-day work and the decision-making of staff members across teams, in line with the strategic objectives of the organization. This organized, detail-oriented, and process-driven thinker will understand the value of timely, accurate, and easily accessible data, and will enjoy improving our systems and processes. The role provides a great opportunity for a motivated professional to help shape the Reporters Committee’s successful use of Salesforce and data, impacting the effectiveness of our staff and organizational learning. While the role is primarily technical and administrative, there is opportunity for growth as the organization evolves.

The position will be based in Washington, D.C., with the possibility of remote employment for standout candidates.  Candidates must be currently authorized and eligible to work in the United States for any employer.

We encourage potential applicants to apply even if they only have experience or familiarity in some of the areas described below. We recognize that many great candidates will not have experience in all of the areas we list or may have relevant experiences and skills that we have not listed or considered.
