Do you enjoy collaborating across business units to find ways to realize the value of data?  Do you love seeing data drive business decisions?  Tableau’s Office of the CDO is seeking an experienced Director, Data Science. The candidate should have an extensive background in Analytics, Data Science/Machine Learning Models, Data Services, service-oriented architecture principles and business practices.  This position will report to the Tableau Sr. Director - Business Intelligence Lead in the AI & Analytics organization.  The leader will be a trusted advisor for our business partners and product teams, and work closely with the leaders within the Tableau Data and Analytics (TabDnA) team.  This role is critical for a trust Data-First culture, and a focus on the value of data. 

Role Description

The Data Science leader will partner heavily with the business and product leaders, Customer Support Group and TabDNA’s Data Platform & Data Engineering, leaders to support Tableau business needs by enabling customer targeting, business/product insights and design quality experiments. 

Responsibilities

  • Lead and mentor a growing team of Data Scientists to discover insights, develop statistical/machine learning models and drive business impact. Examples include developing models that support customer targeting and optimizing customer lifetime value.

  • Identify business and product insights that improve our customer experience such as customer behavior/usage patterns, sticky features, service optimization, defect detection and network effect of publishers.

  • Partner with product and technology teams to make sure that we are capturing relevant data; collaborate with data engineering and analytics teams to get appropriate datasets and dashboards built in a format that enables self-serve analytics at scale.

  • Help us enhance our experimentation capabilities by constantly evaluating if we are measuring appropriate business metrics, implementing statistical best practices, and validating our approach is driving quality business outcomes.

  • Consult with business stakeholders and product managers on appropriate experimental design to answer important questions and ensure new features/initiatives are being tested rigorously

  • Define success and evaluate impact of experiments and other business changes/initiatives.

Desired Knowledge and Experience:

  • Bachelors in a quantitative field (engineering, computer science, statistics etc.) with relevant coursework in Data Science, Machine Learning, Statistics & Deep Learning or equivalent work experience

  • 4 years of relevant work experience as a data scientist, including experience applying advanced analytics to planning and infrastructure problems.

  • Experience designing and building statistical forecasting models, optimization models and machine learning models.

  • Highly skilled in R or Python and database languages (e.g., SQL)

  • Ability to effectively use advanced algorithms to assess complex data resulting in practical insights

Preferred qualifications:

  • Masters or PhD in Statistics, Applied Mathematics, Economics, Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.

  • Experience with graph databases, and data presentation of customer behavior.

  • 3+ years of experience directly managing data scientists and analytics teams

 

For Colorado-based roles: Minimum annual salary of $166,600. You may also be entitled to receive bonus, restricted stock units, and benefits.
