The Director, Marketing Analytics will lead a team that uses a diverse blend of capabilities including direct-to-consumer analytics, member engagement and marketing sciences. We need a strong, influential leader with deep expertise in analytics to create productive insights and implications. As a direct-to-consumer business our marketing tactics are critical to our success, and you will have the opportunity to partner closely across the organization to apply learnings and impact Ancestry’s marketing execution.


Finally, the successful candidate will design and build measurement plans to demonstrate the impact of different tactics, and be responsible for the testing and learning process to ultimately increase our customer base.

What You'll Do:

  • Manage, mentor, and inspire a team of marketing analytics professionals; be responsible for managing performance, goals and development potential of the team
  • Set team strategy to enable the design and execution of scalable end-to-end solutions that holistically blend analytics and research
  • Drive the application and implementation of contemporary marketing analytics, and research methods and tools to derive useful insights for a wide variety of business goals
  • Drive measurement, testing, analysis of projects and initiatives while thoughtfully prioritizing based on urgency and impact
  • Explain to business partners how marketing performance is being measured, including enhancing how we to execute statistically rigorous A/B tests, optimize ROI performance through multi-touch attribution, media mix modeling, and other attribution methods
  • Analyze data, build models, test hypotheses, find root causes, develop prototypes, forecast performance, create reports, write SQL queries, conduct A/B tests, generate insights, present findings, make specific and actionable recommendations, and influence business decisions
  • Use data from paid media ad platforms, Google Analytics, Google Search Console, Keyword Planner Tool, and other industry tools to drive insights and recommendations
  • Partner with marketing leaders to shape the team’s roadmap and drive execution, while also collaborating cross-functionally with internal teams

Who You Are:

  • 8+ years of experience in an analytics role, business strategy, marketing, finance, engineering, or equivalent
  • 4+ years of experience in analyzing large, multi-dimensional data sets and synthesizing insights into actionable solutions and data-driven insights to business
  • BA/BS degree required; a focus in marketing, statistics, computer science, econometrics, applied math, or a quantitative behavioral sciences field; Masters or PhD preferred
  • Able to write and run complex SQL queries to pull data required across multiple tables
  • MS Excel expertise – lookups, pivot tables, and complex formulas
  • Experience with Google Marketing Platform (Google Analytics, Campaign Manager, etc) and Adobe Analytics
  • Experience with MS Excel and SQL required; experience with business intelligence tools (Looker, Tableau) strongly preferred
  • Experience leading teams of technical experts in areas of analytics, research and/or experimentation
  • Ability to think strategically regarding the application of data and research
  • Able to influence and communicate effectively, both verbally and written, with team members, business partners and senior leadership
