Head of Data & Analytics

What you’ll do:

As the Head of Data & Analytics for Care/of, this role will help envision and architect the foundation for our analytics and data future, which powers impactful consumer experiences for millions of users.  Everything you do will be rooted in a desire to make it simpler for our consumers to live healthy — and thrive.

Care/of's data team covers three major areas: analytics, data engineering, and machine learning. We are seeking an experienced leader to be our Head of Data & Analytics, overseeing our small but mighty analytics function. Many raw data sources are loaded into our data warehouse every day, and our different departments have regularly updated dashboards to drive strategic decisions. But as analysis proliferates across the company, we need our Head of Data & Analytics to establish the larger vision of analytics beyond the response to ad hoc requests. Together with our data engineering team, the Head of Data & Analytics is ultimately responsible for the accuracy and standardization of reporting across all of the company's functions. On top of this, the higher goal of the analytics team is always to inform strategy, which requires a skillful balance of immediate business requests with the data team's own vision and judgment of what is important to track and analyze.

You'd work on a variety of work streams across our portfolio. This includes things like:

  • Develop an evolutionary data roadmap, including transitioning us into a self-service model using Looker
  • Coach our analysts with empathy and guidance in their career paths
  • Player/coach role - be hands-on 60% of your time with SQL, Python, Airflow, DBT, etc.
  • Tap into partner data lakes in order to bring new insights into our customer base
  • Triage and prioritize requests across the organization from week to week
  • Work closely with data engineering to model data in a scalable way, in the service of a BI tool
  • Be a technical mentor and code reviewer for analysts, especially when new tables and views are created
  • Coordinate the completion of our migration to DBT
  • Own the data dictionary and standardization of metrics
  • Establish KPIs for a growing, multi-platform organization, especially for cross-functional business partners in marketing, operations, finance, and digital product

Where you’ll be:

This role will require you to be at our collaborative workspace in Noho, NYC at least once a month for in-person collaboration when safety permits, with the option to work remotely the remainder of the time.

We are encouraging employees (whose job responsibilities allow) to work remotely with the option of returning to the office. We are committed to prioritizing workspace flexibility by building systems to create an inclusive and productive environment in which employees feel most comfortable working (role permitting).

Who you are:

You are someone who has analytical experience working in tech startups or similar companies and have had the chance to manage technical teams. You are a champion of automation and scalability, and have worked in environments where the underlying data model is in flux with the rapid development of new features in digital products and the business. We’re excited about you because:

  • You have advanced/high proficiency with SQL
  • You have experience managing and/or transitioning to a modern BI tool (e.g. Looker, Periscope, Mode)
  • You are an excellent teacher and storyteller
  • You are a supportive mentor and empowering manager that has developed the careers of analysts
  • You are an analyst at heart that wants to stay close to your craft. You are excited about rolling up your sleeves, being hands-on, and diving into low-level tasks
  • You hold a high bar for data integrity and systems. You care about automation and processes that make our data dependable and reliable
  • You have demonstrated an ability to evangelize data literacy within your team and cross-functionally
  • You have a proven record of keeping a sharp eye on the big picture and as well as its respective parts
  • You can convey strategy, disagree effectively, and work collaboratively with teams to get things done
  • You see things differently and love coming up with big ideas that don’t exist elsewhere

Even if you don’t meet all the requirements, we still encourage you to apply! If you’re submitting a cover letter, please note what makes you perfect for this role with the qualifications you have.
